Great information!
I liked the information on how to cook, pictures for how to find, and some science behind all of it. Top-notch. Definitely worth your time, and because you’ll use it as a reference guide, I would recommend the binded copy.

Beautiful photography + clear preservation steps
First off, I have heretofore known almost nothing about mushrooms except the standard button and baby bellas that we've bought from grocery stores for cooking. In recent searches of herb books, I came across the accolades for this book about the health benefit of mushrooms and thought it might be a helpful beginner's guide. I have only had time to skim through it for now, mainly for the unusual and stunning photos. The text seems pretty thorough about each type of mushroom presented, including precise directions on various ways to preserve them in general. I've only shown the initial steps of 3 of the multiple processes included (but not the 2nd set of pages that would finish each one). This is just to give an example of the clear step-by-step photos, which is nice for somebody like myself. I also included just 3 further examples of the many striking visuals in the book. Quite a few mushrooms are like something out of a playful and imaginative fantasy realm; others look very creepy and nightmarish to my inexperienced eyes. At this point, I can't say there are many mushrooms in the book I would wish to ingest in "any" form yet, but this is the point of learning about them. I don't know if I would feel confident foraging without an expert, since just like the herb world, there are often toxic look-alikes. However, this is my attempt in getting familiar with something new via an introductory book. It seems to be a very good start, even if only to show me up close the ones I would feel too squeamish to even touch. ... LOL. It would make a good coffee table book for the visuals. My only disappointment is the smell of the book pages ... it is glossy paper, so I'm unsure if it's the paper itself or the ink used to print it. It has a peculiar chemical odor (to me), which I'm hoping will wear off over time. I do have a keen sense of smell, plus I'm one of those weird people who love to sniff book pages while reading; however, this book certainly won't be one of them. Even just flipping through the pages at arm's length emits a detectable odor while brand new. Wish I could add some nice educational insight about the book's content like the other reviews by trained mushroom connoisseurs, but for the time being, I believe it is an excellent purchase for my library. Amazon also had the best price for it in my online searches.

A great informative read
Medicinal Mushrooms by Christopher Hobbs has been fantastic. It’s a genuinely interesting and very readable book on medicinal mushrooms — a topic that’s very on-trend at the moment — but what really sets it apart is how clearly the information is presented. Rather than feeling overwhelming or overly technical, the book cuts straight through to what you actually want to know. The explanations are clear, grounded, and practical, making it accessible whether you’re new to medicinal mushrooms or already have some background. A great reference and an enjoyable read — highly recommended for anyone curious about mushroom medicine or herbalism more broadly
