Redline [Blu-ray]

Already had Redline dvd, but thought to try the Bluray. Glad I did, gave me an excuse to watch Redline again. What a great movie, one of a kind. The musical cues are insane, of course so is the story and artwork, and voice acting...Redline is a must if you like racing, or you like Aliens in an alarming array of sizes, shapes and colors. And then there's Funky Boy, and the Army and the mob boss, so its got everything you usually look for in a racing movie about Roboworld and as a bonus it actually starts with the Yellowline to get you in the groove. Just a joy to watch, they just don't make movies like this anymore.The only way to top this is if Dorohedoro makes a racing movie with brooms.

Not much to say here. Madhouse is king in the hand-drawn animaton realm. The story is wacky and exciting, but the animation takes the trophy. Highly recommended!

Animation is great, good story. I like that it's dubbed and subbed so you can watch how you like. Definitely worth the buy.

I wasn't sure about this, I haven't seen too many racing anime, but this one was actually pretty good. The art was great, the characters were fun, but I actually like the story and pace of it. It never got boring, and I really like that. I was kind of surprised at how fast I finished it. I'm really happy I got this, glad to have it in my collection

Its time again for the Red Line! The Red Line team have planned their next event, selecting for this bidecade the militant totalitarian planet of Roboworld. Needless to say, the President of that system is less than pleased to host the event and has plans to set his military against the racers as they arrive to preserve the integrity of his planet.Who will win the race? It is anyone's guess as the eclectic group of racers line up in their planetary drop tubes to begin the event.This has a lot of absurd racing with Car Wars style weapons (lasers, missiles and exotics) and cheats, a Dragon Ball Z tiered style of Nitrous Oxide like boost systems, hostile race crashers and even a few kaijus.I loved the garish chiaroscuro graphics on the vehicles. I liked the vehicle designs and the engine build discussion, the man-car-monster Machine Head, the character development before the race - not overdone - just enough to make them interesting though I would have liked to see a some on Machine Head but that is a personal preference.Who will win the contest; the one who crosses the finish line or is finding a reason to truly live the true prize?

I can't believe it took this long to get to America but thank god it actually got here, and in Blu-Ray. This movie is such an amazing, breathtaking accomplishment of modern Japanese animation that it makes it a must-see for anyone looking to see something new and exciting.The animation style is a seriously stylish mix of Samurai Champloo (the director was an animator for it), Heavy Metal, Speed Racer, J-pop neon color, F-Zero. This is the first anime I think I've seen that has a clear homage to American animation influences like Heavy Metal and Speed Racer, also to American Rock music (JP's hair is clearly Elvis-style). But what it does is mix all of this together with the Japanese style in such a cool and, ultimately, unique and visually captivating way.Since the movie has the advantage of being released in the digital, blu-ray age, we are given a COMPLETE SOURCE transfer. That means absolutely no specs, grains, washed-out colors, etc... This is the cleanest a hand-drawn animation can look without being done on a computer. That's why this movie is such a success. The sheer imagination and heart that went into the artwork makes a greatly convincing argument for the beauty and potential of hand-drawn artwork that has completely been absent from American animation.The music is the next best part. It starts out with the main anthem, "Yellow Line" and gets into the action right away with about an 8-minute race opening that right away captures the awesome feel that the rest of the movie will throw at you. It captivates the tone and emotions at the right points and even gets a little touching at some points as there is a small amount of melodrama to keep this movie from being without any depth, not that it's totally needed but it's a nice touch. The music captures that Redline has this soulful heart to it that you just latch on to.The story itself is not complex, but that's good because is if it got TOO convoluted in talking then we couldn't really enjoy the limits of animation that this movie pushes so well. The melodrama with JP and with himself and Sonoshee it makes the movie come together in the end that brings out the heart of the creators and staffers on the project that just makes this film special. I'm so happy this movie came out because I was really starting to mourn the end of Japanese animation, especially with the loss of Satoshi Kon. This movie has a soul and that makes it so much more necessary to witness.That brings me to my only complaint. The dubbing in English was done by Manga Entertainment. That means the dub was given a "typical anime" dub in English. While JP, Sonoshee, and Frisbee's voices are all fine there are other voices that are awkward and too anime that distracts from the universality of the animation. In Japanese, the voices are less cartoonish and more realistic, which makes the movie much better and more in line with the creator's vision. Thankfully, the English and Japanese tracks are both True HD so you can choose which one you like.Bottom Line: Get Redline. It's beautiful. It's inspirational. It's great. These animators deserve the money for making such an amazing work of art. It doesn't matter whether or not you like anime, this isn't an "anime" it's a Japanese animation and appeals to a wider swatch of people. It's exciting and the movie just goes by so quick because of how awesome it is. BUY THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!

If you’re a fan of anime films, you need to watch this at least once. A classic film with intense action, romance and a slew of homages to all sorts of manga and comic stories.One downside of this edition is that there are only two audio options, Japanese or English, and subtitles are only available on the Japanese audio track. So unfortunately, if you want English, you can’t have subtitles. This is a bit of a drawback as the soundtrack is quite loud throughout the film.

This is my husband and I's favorite anime movie, and we'd been looking for a replacement for his DVD that has a small scratch for I kid you not 3 years.

Gorgeously animated film. It's a shame that it can be a bit difficult to track down. More people should see this masterpiece of animation.
