does this set require guages?

No . It does not require gaugesIt has adapters that fit onto small propane and oxygen bottles.  What this means is if you get a hole in one of your hoses you will have to trash the connectors and the torch tip holder.  This happened to me  ( yes, my bench went pouf ans so did the hair on my arms). I bought another Little Smith and am happy with it. It is a superb little torch for the price.

do the hoses come with B fittings? thanks

Yes they do. Yes, they work exceptionally well with the Part numbers below: 249-500B Fuel regulator  $57.00  249-499B Oxygen regulator $57.00 These regulators just screw on to the bottles, and the hoses screw to the fitting on the regulator.  Hand tightens only! My regulators just delivered this morning. Went to local home depot and purchased red oxygen bottle, blue propane bottle, yellow Map pro. The oxygen is 1.4 oz. and the fuel was less than $3. For 14 oz. expect the oxygen to empty first and the fuel to last. Approximately 60 minutes with OXY 16 hours with the fuel. Used the propane bottle and was able to get a small melt on in the crucible. Very impressed with original smith equipment!

In the description, is says "Comes with two 6" hoses., is that two 6 inch (usually ") hoses or two 6 foot (usually ') hoses?

They are 6 Foot hoses, not 6 Inches.

Question 4

I noticed it comes with 2 hoses, just like for oxy-acetylene. If I'm using MAPP, do I I need another gas as well, or is the second hose unnecessary?

The other person didn't really answer your question so here after 7 years, I will LOL. If using straight MAPP, no you can use it but it won't get as hot as it would with the oxygen, even the single tip that goes on top of a MAPP can actually has little inlets where oxygen is sucked in before being mixed with the gas and ejected from the tip. If you want to effectively use the MAPP gas at its full potential I'd suggest using the oxygen with it but no it doesn't really need it to work, it would just totally suck and you'd end up getting the oxygen anyway.
