Always wanted one of these in my garage.

How many times have you had to make a run to the hardware store to figure out what you need? Wonder no more when you have one of these available anytime. So convenient to have this around, making me wonder why I didn’t buy one ages ago. Quality build - seems like it is machined aluminum anodized/silkscreened.Pro’s: Quality all the way through. It does appear it may be the only one I’ll ever need. Just make sure to test for fitment by hand threading the screws/nuts (tools with leverage are a no-no). Mounting holes provided (used M3 screws with magnets to hold it conveniently on the side of my tool chest).Cons: You can get sets that includes more fasteners to test. Smallest size is M4 and 6-32 fasteners. Wish it had the smaller sizes as well, but not that big of a deal honestly.I liked the amount of sizes provided and the overall dimensions of this. There are others that are more complete. However, they tend to be larger units or not something that can be easily stored in a space constrained area. This one strikes that balance better than those sets, and it is machined aluminum. Can’t ask for more than this. Highly recommended!

You get what you pay for

I've dealt with a cheap plastic identifier for years that was inaccurate and hard to read. I put off purchasing this one and I'm really sorry that I waited. This one is unbelievable. It is very accurate, easy to read and well built. I suggest buying this one and not make the mistake that I did and wait.

Great quality

I wasn’t sure what to expect, but pleasantly surprised with how well it was made and how heavy it was. I purchased this as a gift, now I may need to purchase one for myself

Such a time saver but it's too expensive imho...

Hard to say it's 100% worth the $ but it saves me a tone of time & headache. In the long run, if you have the expendable cash, are constantly trying to I'd nuts & books, i think it's worth it. I've always been fascinated by these at Lowes & Home Depot...impulse buy that I am starting to be ok with.

Critical tip for success

A lot of metric and standard bolts (and nuts) are quite similar, and that of course is the whole reason this tool exists--to figure out which is which. But even with the tool, things can get tricky:In the first photo you can see a metric M6 (6mm) bolt threaded into the "1/4-28 FINE" hole, which is a standard (not metric) size. It seems to fit pretty good, but the trick is you have to thread it ALL THE WAY THROUGH to make sure it's actually the right size.In the second photo you can see that the bolt is *almost* all the way through the backside, but not quite. At that point it stopped turning easily, which showed it was in the wrong size hole. (It threads all the way through the proper M6 hole quite nicely). The tool manufacturer intelligently made it deep enough to correctly differentiate sizes in this way.The same thing is true for sizing nuts; make sure they go easily on ALL THE WAY before deciding you've found the right size.If your nut or bolt is rusted, this becomes harder. A thorough cleaning with a wire brush followed by some oil is helpful in that case, although oxidation can distort the threads enough to make turning the bolt through the threads in the tool harder.Under NO circumstances should you use ANYTHING more than your fingers to "help" the bolt go in. Obviously if you strip out a thread by using a tool on a "stubborn" bolt, you've just ruined an expensive measuring tool. So don't even THINK about bringing a wrench anywhere NEAR this thing. If it doesn't turn with your fingers, IT'S THE WRONG SIZE.If a bolt doesn't seem to fit *anywhere*, there's something else wrong. Most likely, it's just too corroded. Find a different bolt to try instead, or buy the two closest-sized metrics plus the two closest standards to the one you're sizing and figure it out by actually trying them in your equipment. This is much cheaper than replacing this tool. The other possibility is if you're dealing with something really old, like 1948 or earlier, before the "standard" threads were conformed to their current-day dimensions and pitches. In that case, all bets are off and you're probably going to have to drill those holes and install rivnuts to make the repair.I have found this tool very useful for sizing and then ordering the correct replacement bolts for rusted and missing parts on my Jeep, and I think the time it has saved me make it well worth its price!

Very nice quality but pricey

Its as good or better than you expect when you actually get to inspect the quality. It is solid and has a very nice finish. if you are gonna hang it on a wall, do as other have done and make it a stand off mount so you have maybe 1-1.5 inches from the wall so you can test bolts all the way through the holes not just the first 2-3 threads which can sometimes mislead you. It sure costs a heck of a lot of money, but for people who enjoy being organized or deal with a lot of mystery bolts, this is a nice shop addition if you have the bucks.
