does this work with 1.2v nimh batteries?

AAA is a battery size and not an indicative of the voltage. NiMh batteries deliver only 1.2V as opposed to 1.5V not rechargeable batteries so the total voltage from 3 would be 3.6V instead of 4.5V. It may not work at 3.6V!
