Two CD release, a reissue of the long unavailable album from the British Blues icon, originally released in 1973. Ten Years Are Gone was recorded at Sunset Sound, Los Angeles and, like its predecessors Jazz Blues Fusion and Moving On, it featured Freddy Robinson on guitar and Blue Mitchell on trumpet. For the first time on CD, this sought after John Mayall album is available, endorsed a by John himself, who has contributed a new interview for the notes. 14 tracks. Lemon.

Warning - Censorship bleep on track 7
I've never bought a CD that has adult language bleeped out... until now. On Track 7, Disc 1, near the end of the song "Good Looking Stranger", a loud, high-pitched bleep interrupts the song to obviously censor an expletive. I had no idea this was the case until I listened to it. I was stunned... and furious. This otherwise hidden blunder by Lemon Recordings (a division of Cherry Red Records) was not only unnecessary but infantile. Does anyone have a version of this without the bleep, or do they all have it?

California Campground...
I had this album in the 70's when I was in my teens. I haven't reaquired all the musicI had in those days, but this is a keeper, it grew on me. Some say it's uneven, I don'tagree, It's all good casual jammin' to me.

ROOTS Music done right
This is the album that I play when I am attempting to give my nephews and nieces an understanding of the 70's music. This is such a good album that it would definitely be on that proverbial island with me. John Mayall was the root for Clapton, Page, Beck, et. al. The youngsters used to just shake their heads, but here lately, they are saying that they sort of understand the lineage of some of the music they are listening to today.

Uneven offering from Mayall
Overall, this is not a bad set, but it suffers primarily from its live half (disc 2). While there are moments of interest in the live recordings, they are for the most part boring. The studio disc is what makes this collection worthwhile. Mayall once again rounded up some top notch musicians; among them, Freddie Robinson and Sugarcane Harris. They shine on this. My favorite track by far is "Good Looking Stranger" which the liner notes explains was the result of a drunk Mayall. This "drunken" take was so enjoyable that the "proper" vocal take never saw the light of day (as indicated by Mayall himself in the liner notes). If you're a Mayall completist like me then you'll want this. Otherwise, if you're just a causal Mayall fan, go with one of the many compilations out there.

Classic Mayall
Happy to award 5 stars but, if I was being picky, I'd have to say that Mayall's music here is exactly what you'll expect - nothing new and no changes in direction. He's made better, earlier albums but as I like his music I'm OK with this release.Albums of his that I really rate include ... Nobody told me - collaborations with other artistsTurning point - who doesn't rate tyhis??Thru the years - early but with some of Peter Green's best music with the bandA sense ofplaceTalk about thatA hard road

Jazz Blues Fusion parte 2 ?
