.com As tasty as the sizzling dish of chicken, plantains, and black beans that adorns its cover, this 18-track compilation is a serious must-own for anyone even vaguely interested in the percolating Afro-Latin sounds of the '50s, '60s, and '70s. Latin jazz giants like Machito, Tito Puente, and Willie Bobo are represented by some of their finest cuts ("Relax and Mambo," "Hong Kong Mambo," and "Fried Neckbones and Some Home Fries," respectively). Lesser-known talents like Pucho and His Latin Soul Brothers ("Heat!"), Kako & His Orchestra ("Shingaling Shingaling"), and Ocho ("Undress My Mind") damn near steal the show with their funk-inflected brilliance. --Dan Epstein

muy sabroso
The great selection of tunes on this CD is representative for the history of the afro-cuban jazz. Very educational and filled with loads of information about the works of the included artists is the front cover pamphlet which I strongly recommend to read. The pieces are all classics and always a pleasure to listen again and again.

Hot days, and cool nights
Did you ever wonder what sounds they were playing on those hot days, and cool nights in the city during the late 1960's and 1970s'? Play this CD and get yourself in a New York City uptown mood, image fancy nightclubs, and beautiful sweet-scented women in high heels swinging their hips to Latin rhythms'. Better yet let your carnal side out, have a party and dance to the red-hot music on this CD. Yes most of the great ones are here, Cuba, Mongo, Bobo, Tjader, Puente, Palmieri, and others. This is without a doubt a wonderful collection of music by master musicians whose skill and creativity will remain influential for decades to come.

SABROSO!!!
If you want to know how latin music lovers partied in the 1960's, this is the CD to have. All the greats are on this like Joe Cuba, Mongo Santamaria, Tito Puente, Tito Rodriguez, Willie Bobo, Willie Rosario and more."Picadillo" by the legends Eddie Palmieri and Cal Tjader stills blows everybody away. The song is hardcore latin jazz at its best. If you love to cha cha, you'll go crazy for "Undress My Mind" by Ocho, and "Fried Neckbones and Home Fries" by Willie Bobo. Plenty of Mambo, Salsa, Boogaloo, Cha Cha Cha on this one. If you like to dance play this whole CD at your next party, your guests, young or old, will spin the night away!
