Nice kit for a plumber who needs to solder LED light strips
I learned how to sweat copper pipes a long time ago, but electronic soldering is a lot different from plumbing! A few years ago I tried to replace the battery in an old iPod Touch and managed to completely destroy the thing! When I decided to replace our under-cabinet fluorescent lighting with LED strips, I thought I could do it with modular connectors. Well it's a lot neater installation if you can fish small-diameter wire between the cabinets and solder it directly to the strips.I practiced on several small pieces of LED strip and managed to destroy them. It wasn't my lack of skill ... it was the old Radio Shack soldering gun. Bought this Wolker kit; it has nice reviews and I liked the idea of having extra tips and an adjustable control for the heat. The included solder is a nice diameter for electronic work, and the stand -- while simple -- woks fine.I practiced tinning wire and the strips' attachment pads, then connecting them together. What worked for me was keeping the tip clean (wet rag), clamping or taping down the workpiece to keep it steady, and pre-cleaning with denatured alcohol. Most importantly is finding the right heat setting on the soldering iron's control dial. This changes depending on which tip you choose.I found that the ideal heat range was at or beyond beyond the highest temperatures shown on the adjustment dial. Don't have the means to test, but I suspect that the temperature sticker is not calibrated. The vendor sends a PDF file with some technical information about soldering. The last section of the document has some useful tips for us amateurs. This soldering iron kit worked well for me, and I recommend it to those who need to solder occasionally.

I had a simple job to do and used the broadest tip to heat the wire and alligator clip before applying the solder. Was dialed to the highest setting for heat but the solder would not melt. Applied the solder directly to the tip of the Iron and even then the solder took about 10 seconds to melt and then freeze up. Would return this if I had purchased it from a local store; for the price I have decided it is not worth the trouble to return it.

Iron is good - Company is not!
Actually the Iron is fine. I would give it 5 starts. Unfortunately, this company keeps pestering me and insist that I post a review. Keep in mind that we are in the middle of a major holiday, that is celebrated by Christians throughout the world. It is supposed to be a time of quiet reflection and enjoyment with you loved ones. They obviously show no respect for their clients. Therefore, I personally will avoid dealing with them in the future. Other buyers can decide if they want to put up with the harassment.

Happy with product
Not sure where my other comments went, but here is an updated review. I received my soldering kit, but it didnt work. Tried a few different outlets and all that (just to give it the benefit of the doubt) but it didnt work. After leaving feedback that it didnt work, I (almost immediately) received an email from the company offering to replace it for free). The new one was delivered VERY quickly and it did work. Here's the take away, stuff happens, mass producing stuff (six sigma) will have a bad apple or two. The five star is really with how the company handled the issue, which was to immediately make it right.

Ideal For My Electronic Projects!
This is an awesome Soldering Iron at a great price...The extra tips make a big difference when working on different projects.I used it immediately after I received it and was blown away at it's performance...The Soldering Iron's performance rates right up there with units costing several times the price.Heats up fast and the adjustable temperature is spot on as to not ruin the circuits and IC's.Over all, it works great! Thank you.

If I could make this purchase again I would spend more money and stick with a trusted brand like Hakko.
I'm not sure if I received a defective soldering iron but mine is having issues heating up. The first time I plugged it in I waited 20 minutes for it to heat and it was cold to the touch. After taking it apart and putting it back together and fiddling with the temp knob it finally started to heat. After 10 minutes it was cold again. On my third attempt it finally got hot enough to melt solder but I had to leave the gun on the solder for several seconds at the 450C setting. If I could make this purchase again I would spend more money and stick with a trusted brand like Hakko.

Also Helpful email conversation makes for excellent sales experience
Appreciate bundle with tips, tin, and stand. It just does not seem to heat up fast enough or to get very hot- cold solder joints as a result. Also Helpful email conversation makes for excellent sales experience. Now to find some flux cleaner, wick, and a solder vacuum.

Body of the soldering iron was loose when I got it and the contents of the accessory packs where strewn about. It ended up working but definitely doesn't seem to be of very good quality. Make sure you know if its plugged in or not because you could very easily burn yourself as there wasn't any indicator I was aware of to show that current was flowing through it.
