Very interesting read
As a student in ecology, the review that 'the author clearly has no training in ecology' almost turned me away.I'm glad it didn't. I'm not sure what the reviewer was talking about, as the author has a degree in biology and describes conducting ecological research on ants in a tropical research station.Overall the book puts forward a fascinating perspective on ecological change. Mixing ecological and social concepts, this is a very interesting work on how the social and ecological systems in our world will continue to evolve in complex ways, contingent on innumerable chance symbioses, and how ecological novelty will emerge out of it. Instead of the so common apocalyptic perspective, this book offers a look at a way of thinking that grapples with what can emerge out of the anthropocene, not just what is destroyed by it.
