For the first time in motion picture history, the outrageous talent of Richard Pryor and the ingenious comedic sense of Jackie Gleason are combined in the same film. Gleason is U.S. Bates, a megalomaniac millionaire who owns most of south central Louisiana. Pryor is Jack Brown, a former journalist who has worked his way down the vocational ladder to the position of janitor in Bates' department store. Among Bates' other vast holdings is a young son Eric (Scott Schwartz), who visits his father for one week a year. Typically, Eric is chauffeured to the department store after-hours to pick out anything he wants. This time, Eric has a more elaborate toy in mind โJack Brown. So begins the unique relationship that teaches Eric more about life than fun and games.

Classic 80s humor not for todayโs generation or anyone easily offended
The toy is a classic Richard Pryor film the humor and the dialogue would never be accepted in 2025. It is outdated and would be considered offensive on so many levels and would offend large numbers of people with that said this movie is a snapshot of the 1980s in late 70s and what culture society and fashion was like the movie itself is not racist or discriminatory in anyway the humor is out of the time. This was a hit movie and it helped Richard Porter solidify his career which he had a long one, including being one of the top stand-up comedians at the time he was in so many hilarious movies in the 80s. I couldnโt even list them all, but the toy is a one of the kind movie that touches on a lot of different issues. You have to watch it through the right lens to understand the perspective in which it was written if youโre not from The 70s in the 80s this movie might offend you but if youโre from my generation, youโll laugh your ass off.

Great movie highly recommend
This is one of my husbandโs favorite movies. When he saw it on Amazon, he just had to order it. Heโs 62 years old and still laughs like a kid every time he watches it.

Great movie!
I have started purchasing some of the more classic comedies mainly because quite a few are becoming hard to get due to censorship, etc. This is one of many great and very funny movies that not only stars Richard Pryor but he also had a hand in writing, etc.
