Works excellent!
I've been working with this midi cable for a couple of weeks and am very pleased! The installation is as easy as ABC, there are drivers for Win7-64 bit (Roland support told me about it via facebook, that fact and reputation of the company in electronics made me buy the cable). Software finds a midi source automatically and assigns pads to the necessary cells. It's a bit thin but I don't think it's a problem for midi messages. Roland is a bit more expensive than other cables, but I was ready to pay for the quality and I got it!DTX500 plugged into a laptop with BFD ECO makes the sound of my concerts really cool, groovy and wild!

Works perfect but expensive
I'd give it a 5 star rating if it wasn't so expensive. I learned my lesson buying a $5 MIDI cable sold also on Amazon. The $5 cable would only register 2/3 of the signals. It missed a whole bunch of notes. This cable works perfectly. But it is very expensive... but with MIDI cable, you get what you pay for.

Not as versatile as advertised
UM-ONE MIDI Interface by RolandI am both an experienced (33 years since my first TRS-80 in 1979) computer user and MIDI instrument owner (since 1991), but I found this product somewhat disappointing unless Apple and/or Roland get their driver issues resolved on this. The Roland supplied CD-ROM does not mount nor can it be read by iMac OS 10.8.2, although works with old TiBook and Dell laptops, however.Downloaded latest driver from RolandUS.com (um_1mx8d_v100), installed as directed. No power ready light shows when connecting UM-ONE.System Profile shows it there, but as not configured. With Audio MIDI Setup opened to MIDI Studio window, UM-ONE does not appear.Tried many things without success. Tried swapping old Edirol (Roland) UM-1X (formerly on Dell laptop) with UM-ONE. UM-ONE installed and worked on the DELL without any issues. MIDI instrument communicates with the DELL fine. The UM-1X works without complaint and as expected when connected to any USB port on either the Dell or iMac, even a hub or keyboard port, just as it formerly had before changing operating systems, etc. It is old, but reliable.Upshot is, for now, that old UM-1X works with either the Dell or the iMac, but is currently attached to the iMac. New UM-ONE (2011 model) only works with the Dell (Windows XP) which is OK for my purposes of having interfaces for two MIDI instruments on different floors of my home, but the UM-ONE will not serve as a backup to the old UM-1X which was my secondary goal. Hence 3/5 stars.Others in Apple forum have reported similar problem, only difference being they were using a MacBook.Bottom line: works fine on Windows systems, but on latest Apple hardware/OS it does not seem to; so if you are a Mac user, try to find a working older model by Edirol.

Domo Arigato
I'm using this interface to connect an '80s era midi keyboard (think Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto) to my iMac, and it works perfectly! It comes with the drivers for both iMac and PC (I'm just using the iMac driver) on a disk. The instructions that come with it are surprisingly perfect, too. The best, simplest, most accurate "technical writing" I've seen in a long time. I'm very unfamiliar with midi, but I was up and running in just a few minutes. The instructions step you through how to configure the iMac "Audio MIDI Setup" utility with this device; and now I'm playing my keyboard using GarageBand as my sound module. Excellent!! Note that the cable is only about 5 feet long -- 2 ft midi cables (in/out) connected to a 3 ft USB cable -- so I'll need a USB extension cable to put my keyboard where I want it.I did not try a cheaper product, but I believe the other review that says, you get what you pay for. Roland comes through!

Great Product!
Great right out of the box. A little more than the other types out there but it works perfect as soon as it is plugged in.Very happy with the purchase.

It works
It worked flawlessly for me, but is quite expensive. I have a laptop hooked up to a cheap casio keyboard and used a few trial recording applications. I also tried it on my Roland TD-9.

Works Perfect in Linux
This device works perfectly in Linux Gentoo using the available kernel drivers. I found out, due to my lack of knowledge, that this device will not direct MIDI music to your computer speakers. This device only sends and receved MIDI command messages. I am using this device to operate my electronic MIDI keyboard, using the keyboard's speakers, and the sound is astonishing. I can also reverse the action and record what I play on the keyboard to the software on my computer. I did notice, however, that the operator's manual had it backwards when it explained how to connect this device to a MIDI device like a MIDI keyboard. It said the MIDI IN cable is supposed to go to the MIDI OUT port and the MIDI OUT cable is supposed to go in the MIDI IN port but if you hook it up that way, there is no sound or anything. So the MIDI IN cable should go into the port labeled MIDI In and the MIDI OUT cable should go in the port labled MIDI OUT. Maybe the factory accidentaly wired the cables backwards in some of them. I like this product and would do recommend it to anybody who wants to get MIDI in and out of their computer.
