Elmer's Colours (English–Arabic) (Elmer series)

Beautiful book. Bought this for my 16 year old daughter who is learning Arabic. She shared with her class. It's a HUGE HIT! Elmer is adorable.

The Elmer series in general is simple to read both in Arabic and English yet engaging enough that my 6 year old still finds it interesting. If you are learning to read Arabic this is a great book to have. It obviously teaches colors (although I learned a different word for purple than whats in the book and it also doesn't teach the color brown (boony if you feel you need to know) but aside from just giving you a listing of colors you can also hear them used in a sentence such as "White is a snowman" and "He has a purple scarf to keep him warm". It doesn't use the colors in a way that that the sentence would change the form to a masculine or feminine variant of the color. this means red will always appear as ahmar instead of the gendered hamra) this is both a plus and a minus since it keeps things consistant but also does not teach you proper usage of the color as it would normally be used. If your a bilingual family this is also great because the children can get the story in both Arabic and English (and for english speakers who are trying to read it in Arabic the sentences are small and simple enough you probably can do it ... of course it never seems to come out as your Arabic speaking counterpart). This is also a very sturdy board book with rounded corners making it great for reading to babies, preschoolers, or even young kids.

This book is one of my two-year-old's favorites. Elmer is very lovable, the story and pictures are entertaining and the book is sturdy/made well. I would recommend all of the books in this set.

I'm trying to learn Arabic and I thought I might try the same way I learned English--Now I just need a nice Arabic grandma to read to me...

A good book. A bit pricey. The Arabic language has no harakahs on them so is hard to read for non Arabs.

I love all the Elmer nooks and enjoy reading them to my son. This is an excellent resource for Language week in prmary school as children are familiar with Elemer yet have the experience of hearing the story in the Arabic language. A fantastic resource.

I have only discovered this amazing range of very colourful books this Christmas.A truly great discovery for boys and girls, well written and original.I am sure they will be read for some time to come, with great pleasure.
