Writer/Director SAM RAIMI’s relentless, gore-spattered debut is a landmark in horror cinema, a no-holds-barred onslaught of gruesome terror and nightmarish effects which has earned its rightful status as a legendary cult classic. Five college students travel to a remote cabin in the woods and unwittingly unleash a monstrous evil force hellbent on their total destruction. Now with newly restored state-of-the-art digitally remastered picture and loaded with incredible extras, THE EVIL DEAD is truly the ultimate experience in grueling horror. Review: Looks like film! - The Evil Dead was shot on a very low budget in 16mm, framed at 1.33.1 and subsequently framed at 1.66:1 but I am glad this version on UHD 4k disc is 1.33.1, it works better, the frame is too tight for me at 1.66:1 for several critical scenes, anyways, the UHD high bitrate and H.265 codec deals with film grain beautifully, it’s very organic looking, yes there is a lot of film grain here, if you hate it then avoid the disc but I think it looks great, I listened to the 5.1 track, for me too many films are having the high frequencies attenuated and the low frequencies below 30hz removed, but since this is a remix with some new sound effects added and the film originally played in 1 channel mono none of that is a real problem here, it sounded good to my ears, some great directional effects for the surround channels at key moments, the score sounded good, I cannot complain but some people might miss that mono track. There is a host of extra features to be found on the accompanying blu ray disc, that disc plays the film at 1.66.1 I think, I never checked it, I bought for the UHD disc, the back cover states 1.85.1, if that’s true then I think it’s far too tight for this movie and it will crop a lot of scenes too much, if you are interested in the film then buy it for the UHD disc, it looks and sounds superb. Review: the best horror film evef made - the best horror film ever made by far this film is the perfect horror that could be gory scary if i made a horror film this would be it sam raimi never put a foot wrong with this film no siting around talking in this it seems like a nightmare this film a dream come true for me anyway i first saw this film on vhs back in the 1980s i was going to buy it but it got banned many years later i did find a old vhs very luky i still have it thank yuo sam for this film

What a restoration
Given this is such a low budget film and this is made all the more apparent by it being shot on 16mm this is a brilliant restoration, yes the grain can be somewhat heavy at times but this is film Well worth the purchase 👍

Great 4k restoration
Amazing restoration, considering that Evil Dead was shot on 16mm film with Arriflex 16 BL, as low budget movie, it is little miracle that it looks so good. 4k version is beautifully presented in 1:33:1 aspect ratio, great details on cabin interior, forest scenes are amazing looking as well, movie uses practical effects which looks great on 4k television. Must have for all Evil Dead fans.

Aspect Ratio still wrong on Blu-Ray
Great film obviously and good to see that the UHD disc has the film in the correct aspect ratio of 1.33:1. Unfortunately the Blu-Ray included is still the cropped 1.85:1 version. Also despite there being a ton of extras produced for this film over the years, this disc is still very light on that front.

Edited like all the rest!!!
This is not a direct transfer of the film negative like were promised. It is digitally enhanced and that makes me sad. Just give us the original warts and all. Its a B movie let it be what it is. That being said its not a glaringly obvious as the DVD edit. But you can still see the feat under the bridge. The bottom of blue jeans poking out is way more noticeable than just some guy standing by a bridge. Get over yourselfs.

The Evil Dead (1983) (import 2 Discs - 4K Ultra-HD & BD) [Blu-ray] [2020]

Bester Horror classic aller Zeiten!
