Valvrave the Liberator Season 1 Blu-ray

AAAAARRGGG!!!!!! This is an underrated anime for the simple fact that it is a high school drama with a very high concept. Most folks can't wrap their heads around that. The 'Aargh' comes from the interruption of the story; around episode 12, the next chapter/episode is not on line right now. So, ok, this is worth a watch--I'm not giving any spoilers just because the idea is kind of cool--but I'm hoping for a really great ending.IMHO, take a chance!

Love the pen and ink and the story. Upset that Amazon didn't indicate that this as English subtitles and not English dubbed. Most of the time I don't mind but in this instance it distracted me from enjoying the series as much as I could have. They label practically everything else as subtitled or not, why not this series?

Great series, very popular in japan when it came out.

Okay, this might sound absurd, but this is a story that starts badly, goes downhill, and then struggles as the characters struggle, and the more you "binge watch" it the better the story comes together.There are serious flaws in the story, primarily related to an attempt to create a technical version of magic and just flat out going for big mechanical monster sword fighting because, after all, it is big, splashy, and swords! Season one and season two CANNOT be rated apart, the entire story is the only thing that can be rated.It ends somewhat disappointingly, and never really addresses some plot points, but it is a story, a real story, and it is entertaining if you watch both seasons.One of the better points is that they avoided cheesy dubbing and retained the original voices and used subtitles to convey what was really said and meant, something dubbing frequently fails at doing. The five stars limit your ability to clearly rate things, but it deserved four point five or four point six stars, so I rounded off and gave it the five star rating.After you finish both seasons you will find yourself finding patches that helped and hidden flaws that hurt, but at least it did not out and out insult the viewers by simply dropping the plot and splicing in a new plot without explanation, which puts it ahead of most of the giant robot sword fight anime.It is actually worth the price, and that is rare.

I am struggling to list any real comparable series to this one and sadly I am failing. This falls more in the Super Robot side of things on the Mech scale and has a bit of the anime "High school Hero" tropes but other than that it has a number of more original ideas. The interaction between the kids and social media being an especially modern twist. Have to say this is one of my favorite mech anime of all time.

Mech show with vampire like curse/power, interstellar fighting, alien life, mystical cults, school life, and sudden rape scene? (Where did this come from?) [Skip it's brief appearance and show drops into PG-13 ish territory] This show tried to put everything into one package and suffers an Identity crisis several episodes in. The last half had me wondering if I was watching the same show at times.Personally I really liked the first few episodes.He gets "cursed" and gains power for mech operation. This allows him to save schoolmates from attack from another country. The school is part of an orbital colony shaped like planet, divided into hexagonal blocks forming nations/ countries. The love interest and 2nd most important character dies in first episodes ... Really. The school gets isolated from main space colony and becomes isolated. Then we have "Lord of the Flies" for awhile. Lots of killing, war, blood and turmoil. It is definitely filled with action. Anime itself done well on many aspects. Too bad the story line lacks a good destination. I give it a 6.5/10 which puts it on the, "I'd watch it, but not buy it list". I'd check out streaming site before buying.
