King's Quest Collection

I have loved and played these games since I was very little, and I was thrilled to hear that they were re-releasing these old games.If your are an rpg gamer of new games, you absolutley must try these old school games out! there great.Yes it does not have the original original version of Kings Quest 1, but the remake is much better.These games are on a 2 disc set, and run great on xp instead of dos YAY!I love the way these games have been re-released and yes it dosen't have a manual but you can print one off! so its all good, and it still allows floppy saves!These games even have the old school text, and or voices,and old school 16, 8, or 256 colors.The price is just right for not only do you get 7 pc games for the price of 1, you get 7 timeless classic games for the price of 1.!!!!! It is an offer you can't miss, as I feel these collections will go out of print within the next year or 2.If you get this set, please also try the Space Quest set, Leisure Suit Larry set, and the Police Quest set, all available from your local pc game store, or right here on amazon. Lets hope the re-release the qfg series too.They also need to re-release the old old old sierra games that came on the original kings quest collection, but unless us gamers show some interest on whats here we won't get it, this is a good compilation and i'm sure the others are just as good.Now lets look at the games themeselves.Kings Quest 1 Ega Remake - A great game to start off the amazing timeless saga, it has a great story with alot to do. 5/5Kings Quest 2 -A great follow up to Kings Quest 1 with an even better story and just as much to do still. 5/5Kings Quest 3 - Quite possibly the most important game in the saga, and it has one of the best stories, without this game we would have no more stories for the continuation of the saga. 5/5Kings Quest 4 - This game is a great game because its very unique and has a great story, you get to play as a girl this time. 5/5Kings Quest 5 - A phenominal game with another good story that comes from 3. 4/5Kings Quest 6 - This game has the best story in my opinion and its alot of fun. 5/5Kings Quest 7 - I could never really get into this game ,it is more like a disney princess cartoon, however its still realitively good and you can play as valanice finally, and it ties up the lose ends, its just not as fun as the others. 3/5

You get the first seven King's Quest games on one disc, which is nice. Overall it's not hard to use, DOS Box is also on the disc, all you have to do is install it. I did have trouble understanding the DOS Box setup (apparently you don't have to actually install DOS Box? It was a little confusing, not going to lie), but the games are installed and playable.KQ1: Extremely basic, harder to beat than I expected. There were more ways to die doing dumb things than I would have imagined. The text commands were difficult to figure out (there's a reason we moved away from text-based gaming!) and I'm fairly sure the game was included only because it's the first game in the series and hard to find elsewhere.KQ2: Gameplay was about the same as KQ1, I was more familiar with the terms I needed to use for prompts. I found the extremely pixelated graphics distracting in this game, as it wasn't as much of a continuous environment game as KQ1 had been. Again, this game was on the disc for the nostalgia and the fans.KQ3 and 4: I have previously played KQ3 and didn't feel the need to revisit the game. The opening of the game, with it's timed tasks and Mannanan popping up far too often was frankly annoying, and playing through it once was more than enough. KQ4 requires a password, which was not included in the box (my version came with no booklets or leaflets or insets) and while I could probably have looked it up online, I was too eager to get to KQ5 and 6 to bother.KQ5: I loved this game as a child. I didn't understand it, but I loved looking at it. The background world is color-rich, and I loved the romance of the Weeping Willow. The plot is fairly straightforward--your family has been kidnapped so you have to find them. Getting through the game this time was fairly easy. The labyrinth beneath Mordack's castle wasn't as complicated as I remembered. The only parts that were truly maddening were trying to find my way through the desert and trying to remember the correct sequence to visit the shops in (I'm including the Bakery and the Inn as shops). The game was just challenging enough, while still being interesting. My only complaint was that there was no toggle between text and speech, as in KQ6, so you have to put up with the voices the whole time. Which would have been fine, except I had wanted to play without my headphones, and no dialogue boxes popped up.KQ6: Okay, I'll be honest, I love this game. It's the reason I started playing computer games in the first place (on my own, at least, as opposed to with a friend or my sister or my dad). Very basic graphics, maybe, but rich worlds and characters, a plot that weaves in fairy tales and mythology, and a very classic melodrama at the core. The only problem I have with this one is that my copy has a glitch where if you don't save every fifteen to twenty minutes (or after every task is completed), the game will freeze and you have to restart. Which sucks, because I like to marathon my way through that game, saving only occasionally, but oh well.KQ7: I haven't been able to play this yet, for some reason it won't work. I'll have to go back and uninstall/reinstall, then play through.

I've been a fan of the King's Quest series and I was really excited to buy this collection.There's not much else I can think to say about the games that has already been said. They are timeless classics that defined the adventure game genre and the imaginative effort that went into them is impressive even today and the stories are fun. I've loved them since I was a kid and my dad played them with me and now I'm able to replay them as a young adult and they are as fun as ever and I'm showing my cousins the King's Quest series and they enjoy them too.About this set. It's pretty much bare bones, you get the original 7 games in the series. No bonuses and nothing else really, so if you're expecting more you'll be disappointed. It doesn't advertize itself as more, so anyone complaining about the lack of it should know what they're getting.I feel like I should mention that if you're buying this, you will probably need the patch on the Sierra game help website to get the games from having glitchy graphics.
