The Victorian Prosthetic Hand THIS IS CURRENTLY BEING EXHIBITED - Please allow 4 days to the dispatch time This steampunk assemblage sculpture has been floating around my brain for a couple of months - so I had to finally let it out. This is another piece with a bio-mechanical theme. I've enjoyed making it - so there will be more. This is quite ordered so I'm thinking of creating a really grungy (apocalyptic) piece next. The fun part about working in the steampunk realm is you can mix (and invent) old and new technologies. I want my work to look like a real machine with hydraulic pipes, tilt switches and cable down the length of the fingers. The reverse of the hand is bare except the faux "pressure" sensors on the finger tips. I also used "glow in the dark" powder under the perforated grill for that wonderful atomic green glow emanating from within. I try to avoid the "just stick gears on it and call it steampunk" approach but I couldn't resist the fantastic circular cut out gear that is more ornamental than part of the arm. This is not a glove - it can't be worn. The hand is solid wood. There is over 40 hours in this piece - I hope you like it.
