Not working at all
It appears to not work. I purchased this as a replacement for an arrestor that failed after two years. What I noticed on this one was there's a non-metallic object in the bottom above the fitting where the piston would be. I don't know if this is the "ball" other purchasers mention being stuck. In any event the pipes are still getting rattled.

Mine was stuck too!
(HYDRO MASTER Water Hammer Arrestor,Clean Brass,1/2"MNPT) If you have not seen the other reviews, something about the manufacturing process causes the ball inside to get stuck and needs to be dislodged before use. I used the back end of a ballpoint pen (perfect fit) and a rubber mallet, it was not easy and I had to strike it pretty hard several times in a row. If you also decide to do this, make sure to use something malleable like a pen because a metal tool will likely damage the ball. Other than that, I totally think it was worth it and the product itself does the job.

Seems to have resolved the hammer issue from our sprinkler valves.
I already had a TEE with a plug, so took the plug out and screwed this in. The shaking line and noise seem to have been eliminated. One concern I have is that it is outside. BUT we turn the water supply off in winter as several lines are exposed.

Protect your investment
A device like this is essential whenever you have any applications that use solenoid valves that close quickly. Water is a non-compressable fluid, that is traveling at a high speed, that collides at the end when the valve closes. The water hammer arrestor is like a shock absorber. They solve problems when installed near dishwasher, laundry or smart toilets. They will prolong the life of the domestic water line.

Valve stuck on arrival, used a big Allen key to push it forcefully down prior to use and it works well. Removed all squeaks from my pipes 👍 live in a small flat so this one should be fine for whole house

INITIALLY Did NOT work, then found out why: The rubber valve / plunger was STUCK. like possibly melted to the metal I suspect during the Welding process melted the rubber to the metal seam, notice how the arrestor canister is welded (The weld joint is very close to the rubber so it likely melted and got stuck.) So i took a screw driver and tried pushing the white valve plunger inwards to simulate a 'water hammer event' IT DID NOT move!!! I tried pressing hard.... it didn't move at all..., So i took a Hammer and Hammered the screw driver inwards into the valve (to simulate an extremely severe water hammer event), and then suddenly it made a pop and worked smoothly from that point on. I could even push it gently with my hand, and it worked beautifully. I also added silicon Grease (Food grade) so it wouldn't stick again, and reinstalled it back into the piping. So if you encounter issues where it doesn't solve your water hammer problems make sure to prime it using a hammer and screwdriver as shown in picture. The manufacturer if you're reading, make sure to grease the valve after you weld it. otherwise it'll get stuck.
