I didn t want any sad songs on this record, Vivian Green says of Green Room, her fourthalbum and her second for eOne Music. I wantedto make an uplifting, feel-good record for adults.I wanted to create music that s fun and sexy andsoulful, and songs that are reflective but notmorose. That s where I am in my life, and that sthe kind of music I wanted to make. Missionaccomplished. The effortlessly engaging GreenRoom marks a significant creative landmark for the charismatic, down-to-earth Philadelphiabred singer / songwriter / pianist, whose prior work established her as a pioneering female R&B auteur whose achievements helped to pave the way for such current cuttingedgedivas as Ledisi and Chrisette Michelle

The Green Room
I've been a fan of Vivian Green since before her solo career began - I took note of her vocal skills when she (along with the equally talented Carol Riddick) performed back up vocals for Jill Scott. Vivian is a truly talented yet vastly underrated artist and I wish she had as loyal a fan base as Jill Scott's or a wider outlet for her music. Vivian is a consistent artist who hasn't hopped on trends nor veered too far away from the music she presented on her 1st album, yet those who loved that album haven't really taken the musical journey with her as she's evolved.I've had this album since it was released but haven't listened to it in one sitting until now - I've gotten into a somewhat bad habit of buying albums and putting them straight on my mp3 player but not giving them a proper listen. However over the past week, I heard one too many songs from this album that brought smiles to my face on my subway ride home which prompted me to listen to the entire album and share my thoughts on it.This is a well put together album: lyrically & production wise that kept my interest from the 1st song to the last - it's great to buy an album that has 12 great songs instead of a bloated 22-track album with only 4 or 5 good songs, so kudos to Vivian & her production team!My favorite tracks:X - after an awkward rap intro by Freeway, it gets betterFREE AS A BIRD - love the lyricsANYTHING OUT THERE - melodic, mid-tempo trackWHEN CAN I SEE YOU AGAIN - sultry deliverySTILL HERESUPPOSED TO BE MINE - plaintive song about a lost love on which I felt her emotion

Nobody makes music like this anymore
I have been a Vivian Green fan since she first came out onto the scene with A Love Story which is still very much in rotation in my car. However, I lost touch with the singer after being extremely disappointed with her sophomore album but always kept interest in her latest projects because she is very talented. I was surprised when I happened to come on Amazon one day and saw that her fourth album was on sale. Not having heard anything from her for years, I quickly listened to the first single and knew that there was potential. That same evening, her CD was on its way to being shipped.I must say that I have never been as excited about a CD like I was for the Green Room. After giving it a first listen, every track on this album spoke to my soul and every bass line and beat was welcomed by a foot tap and a head bob. This album shows growth and maturity from her as a singer and a song writer.Another thing that surprised me about this album was how much I enjoyed each song as much as the previous. "Free as a Bird" feels like the soundtrack to my life while X Featuring Freeway is a definite favorite. Despite this, all of the songs feel solid. Give it a listen as I'm sure you will like it.

LOOKING BACK: Everyone should have a "GREEN ROOM".
12 songs on repeat 3 times and more. That's what Viv did. This release is ONLY for the grown and sexy in us all. Her voice and this music made the perfect combination. She didn't have the overly sad "I LOVE DA HELL OUTTA YOU/I MISS DA HELL OUTTA YOU" songs that are a permanent staple in R&B today. She sings her case and she moves on, leaving us wanting more. Her writers KNOW what songs to present to Viv and she knows what her voice can handle. Nothing overexaggerated or underdeveloped here. Everything in it's musical place. This is the PERFECT disc to pop in and get your chill factor on. Vivian is one of those artists who you wish had a bigger selling crowd, but her true fans already know that the smallest comes in the biggest. She is CLEARLY one of the biggest. GO VIV GO!!!

Her Best Yet?
Only time will tell, but based on the first two listens, this is Vivian Green's best collection yet. I have been a big fan from the beginning - so yes I am biased - but the other CDs always required multiple listens before I connected to them and was able to say "great CD", some of my favorite songs of the past decade were on those CDs, but it took time to find them. Green Room I loved from the minute I put it on. That is exceptionally rare for me. I expect to be feeling this CD for many, many months to come. There are some great cut-by-cut reviews below so I will defer to them. Just know I love this one.

Refreshing album
Vivian knocked it out the box with a really refreshing album. I am not a big fan of Vivian but really enjoyed this album along with the pleasant sound of her voice. Green Room is a really nice album.

Good Choice
Overall, I like this CD because it has songs on it that I can relate to. I chose this rating because not all of the songs jumped out at me but its still a good CD.

Vivian Green is the truth and her music never disappoints...me at least. From the very first album I've been a fan and I still am. Her sweet, sultry voice soothes the heart.
