Recorded live on December 30 & 31, 1981 in Oakland, this performance captures Earth, Wind & Fire at their absolute peak. Despite being a group of skillful musicians, the true essence of Earth, Wind & Fire has always been the live show, with the choreography, the horns, and the massive stage show supplementing the outstanding combination of funk and R&B. A Classic Time Capsule
This DVD is a fantastic time machine back to 1981, to the peak of the performing career of EWF. All original Band, original mixing and song layout. However, i think theres something to be said about the less-than-perfect sound quality. I attribute that to the fact that the recording is so old. Other than that, it doesnt bother me that much. THe DVD is fantastic, and wildly entertaining, as EWF's elaborate and flamboyant 1980's costumes light up the stage almost as much as the energy of Phillip Bailey, Ralph Johnson, Maurice White and Verdine White. Ill recommend this DVD to anyone who wants to see EWF in their heyday, however if youre looking for truly dazzling musicianship, then probably stick to the later DVD's after they've hired Morris Pleasure as their musical director. Overall, I can't give this DVD any sort of bad review though, because what you're buying here is more of a "look into the glorious past". 9 out of 10 stars.

Earth Wind and Fire Live the HBO special
This DVD of Earth Wind and Fire live in concert shows the group at one of their many peaks. The group is a worldwide sensation at this point and the stage show is phenomenal. The lights and special effects only serve to heighten the great music that is being performed. Maurice White is in the show and sounding as good as ever. Phillip Bailey is there of course and sounding great although higher notes were yet to come. The band is as tight as ever and the Phoenix horns play some amazing stuff. This is a must have for EWF fans. Another must have is EWF live in Tokio which I just picked up and that DVD rocks as well! Call me and we can chat about it! 570 972 6304

Lots of overdub but still is GREAT music
I've watch this concert in VHS format while i was a little kid. I didn't notice back then that this concert had a lot of overdubs in it. It did dissapoint me a bit after I found out about the overdubs, but if you just ignore that a lot of the sound did not sync with the players movement, and just focusing on the sound of the MUSIC they produced, it's a GREAT piece of music anyway. I think one of the best they've made. And the live vibe is still there despite all the overdubs. So, appreciate the great music, and just enjoy the picture as a bonus...

"LEGENDS AT THEIR BEST!"
This EWF Live Concert was originally broadcast as an HBO Special in the spring of 1982. Just to give you an idea of the impact the group had on their fans, I was living at home at the time and my mother & I both stayed home from work to catch the show; we both had the pleasure of seeing them Live in person at Philadelphia's Spectrum Arena in 1988 on their "Touch The World" tour of that year. The Philly audience was populated with families and very young people, something you hardly saw at the concerts of EWF's contemporaries! I searched for years with no luck to find this event on VHS and was delighted when I discovered it on DVD a few years ago. A good companion piece is the excellent documentary "Shining Stars: The Official Story Of Earth, Wind & Fire". If you are a hard-core fan you will know all of this already, if not, sample the best that Maurice White, Phillip Bailey and the fellas had to offer, and they are still making music! Peace!

The Best Concert Ever!!!
I had recorded this on HBO back in the early 80"s on a betamax! This is the "one" concert that I will always remember with all of E W & F's favorite hits including Shining Star, Devotion, Head to the Sky, Reasons, among others and a great cut called "I Had Enough" with a great guitar rift at the end and of course those "HORNS" - The Phenix Horns with Louis Satterfield, Michael Harris, Rhamlee Davis, and the "great" Donald Myrick (may he RIP). The save the best for last - their National Anthym - "Thats The Way Of The World!!! All E W & F fans should own this!!!
