Its plastic behind the heated plated does not get too hot so I can grab that part when I need to. Nicely constructed so my hair doesn’t caught up and pulled out. It is really by far one of the best flat irons I have ever bought and I use it almost every day! It doesn't burn my hair or dry it out I would recommend this product and definitely would buy again.
