Bradley and Judy Niemeyer designed the layout and foundation pieces for the Fire Island Hosta quilt pattern. The package includes a 20-page instruction booklet plus a complete set of foundation paper piecing patterns to complete the 74" x 74" quilt. The cover quilt was made using a collection of Hoffman Fabrics, released in the Summer of 2013. It is the first pattern in a new line of Leaf inspired designs that include Judyâ€s latest paper piecing technique, involving curved-line paper piecing. This pattern teaches you how to trim a quarter-inch seam without an Add-A-Quarter Ruler, and with perfection every time. The instructions include yardage and exact color references to the coversheet, along with information that will allow you to pick your own colors for the different areas of the quilt.

Worth the effort
I just finished piecing this quilt top and it turned out beautifully. It is definitely not for the faint of heart or unorganized quilter as it was pretty challenging. Judy's directions are very detailed so be sure to read and reread them! Also, go to her website and double check for pattern corrections, which are helpful. She also has a few tutorials on YouTube showing how to assemble specific sections and those were a big help. I can't stress enough that you absolutely need to do a precise job of marking the registration points!! I didn't on the first few sections and it caused me real headaches getting those darn points to match up. Once I marked the points exactly it changed everything....the points came out perfect. This was my first Quiltworx pattern and now I'm hooked. I've learned so much and improved my skills so I've ordered 2 more of judy's patterns. If you've never paper pieced before this probably isn't the pattern to start with, but judy has some simpler, smaller patterns that would be good to begin with. Overall, I'm happy I tackled this even though it was REALLY scary and intimidating at times. The confidence, added skills, and sense of accomplishment are worth all the effort.
