Cool toy...not a substitute for actual electronic drum kit.
Works great as a toy. Might "drum" up some interest in a child to graduate to real drums. It is pretty limited as an actual instrument, mainly due to the small size of the drum pads (about 5") each. It has a game feature that indicates when and which drum head to hit along with music. Kind of like those old Rock Band games. I had bought my kids a cheap little Casio keyboard when they were really little. They now play a real piano. This drum thing is like the "little Casio keyboard" for drums. It's simple to use, very accessible for kids. And small, and with volume controls. As a toy, I think it is really fun (every kid in the house seemed drawn to it).

Awesome drum kit for kids/teens or any beginner
We made the mistake of buying the RockJam portable rollup drum kit which was complete garbage. We returned it for this drum kit from Alesis. Although it is double the price of the RockJam, it's absolutely worth it. Alesis has been making drum kits for decades and this kit is very high quality and feature rich for the price. The unit is smaller than I expected, but lighter weight and more portable than I expected as a result. The size is actually great. Power with A/C or battery. All of the functionality works well and sounds very good. Love the LCD screen and so many features to try out, including a coach mode, demo mode, and game mode. Perfect for a first time drummer wanting to learn how to play drums. Highly recommended!

Fun but has some flaws for the price.
I liked that this was fun for whole family. There are lots of things to do programmed in and playing the drums has a nice therapeutic value. The controls definitely have a learning curve. There is also quite a bit of noise "static" you can hear especially when wearing headphones. There is also no memory so you have to adjust the volume every time you turn it on. If they tuned that stuff up it would easily be 5 stars. It's still fun to learn/play the drums.

Good for beginners
Good sound quality. Speakers are not great but through headphones it’s got great tone. The touch sensitivity is good, not great, but good for this price point. Plastic sticks come with this. Upgrade to real sticks for your kid. Game is fun, Coach mode is smart and easy. My daughter loves it. A good tool for learning some basics and having fun. If it all works out well, this manufacturer is well known for its more advanced products too.

Great Little Set
I'm a beginner, but also a senior. This practice pad is fantastic. It's lots of fun and it works great. Kids would love it too.

Mixed feelings....
I'm a long time, old school drummer...acoustic kits. Bought this for granddaughter. Accompaniment "music" sounds like a cheesy1980s Nintendo game. VERY confusing and non-intuitive controls. Practically zero instructions. Crappy, weak sound from the pads themselves...but, boy, that arcade music can really blast. The LCD readout is good for NADA. I guess I just xpected better. But hey, its clearly a kid's toy and it pretty cheap- and even during the still-early stages of JoeFlation.....

Just What I Needed For Home Recording
I recently acquired a handheld overdubbing recorder and decided to record myself playing guitar and bass on a few songs just for kicks. Turned out pretty well. Then I decided it would sound even better with drums. I know nothing about drumming so I looked for something simple and inexpensive and decided on the Compact 4 based on reviews and I'm super pleased. It took me three passes on each song by playing a single pad at a time, the third time, adding cymbals. I sounded like a real drummer on playback! No external speaker was needed. Very good depth from a small speaker after adjusting the input volume on the recorder. Now I can say I played all the instruments on my recordings. No one has to know how I did it.

Great little drum set
All my daughter wanted for her 7th birthday was a drum kit. Since we didn't have room for a full set, we opted for the electronic set. She LOVES it! And the best part is that she can plug her headphones I and we don't have to hear it.The only downside is that it doesn't have a pedal for the base drum. We would ha e to upgrade for that option. But the price is fantastic for what you get.I would recommend.
