A clever storybook, to color, with art tips & color theory, all wrapped up in one!
Wow, just, wow!Right off, I haven't had the heart to color in this stunning book yet, I'm gifting it to my daughter because I know she'll love it too! I'm gonna buy another copy for myself...It's a story as well as a coloring book, along with tips on creating various effects & some color theory as well. Quite an ambitious & well executed idea! The story idea reminds me of The Spiderwick Chronicles, very clever~The only "issue" I have is the thin pages, but the main image pages have mostly text on the reverse side, so not much will be lost if using markers (just back the page with cardstock or something, to protect the next pages image). The lines are bold & clear, with a touch of greyscale.I will definitely be purchasing more of Christina McAllister's books!

it's a great deal more
This is not your everyday coloring book, it's a great deal more! Yes, the images are lovely, and beautifully done, but the story is also as carefully crafted as the drawings. Which came first - the illustrations or the story? It doesn't really matter as they compliment each other perfectly. Some of the drawings are grayscale, but not the Photoshop filtered photographs that pass as grayscale in many coloring books. These are artistically done, adding shading and depth to the drawing and providing a backdrop that can make the coloring really pop. Many of the drawings are of people, but don't let that put you off! Because they are "alien" beings, they don't have to be flesh toned. You can practice your blending and shading or just make them purple, or green or whatever color suits your fancy. Looking forward to more from this talented author/artist.

Unlike any other.
This book, is beautiful and interesting to read. When completed, it will be something to treasure. There is no other coloring book out there like this. The author's note, makes the story itself even more intriguing. Christina also gives plenty of helpful tips, suggestions, and even a beautiful color wheel, throughout the book. This makes it suitable for even the most inexperienced of beginners. Advanced colorists will also benefit, by learning the new techniques, or they can ignore them and do their own thing. The illustrations themselves are intricate enough to suit an advanced colorist, but not with all the extremely small spaces, to make it difficult for a beginner. This book is well worth purchasing!

The Lumina Chronicles Review
Words cannot describe this breath-taking coloring book. It is an entirely different experience. There is a story, coloring tips, and incredibly beautiful images. All the pages have an antique look as shown on the cover, this includes the story pages which are on the left, with the images being on the right. Almost too pretty to color in, and so will encourage the colorist to take his or her time, choose their colors carefully, and allow themselves the most serene environment possible while indulging in this fantasy experience. Be prepared to be enchanted!

Beautiful art.
I have all the books by this author/artist. She is truly an artist. This book is not only a coloring book, but also tells a bit of story along with the images. The images are mostly of magical beings with a few mandala images. Actually, the magical beings are also mandala-like in their design. There are around thirty pages to color along with tips and ideas on special effects. That is great for someone like me who sometimes can't see the forest for the trees and wants to branch out (ha) but isn't always sure which way to go. I just love her work.

Love it but...
This book is beautifully done. Pics are great, fun to color but the paper is way to thin for a book you would want to color and display as the story line would like for you to. The only way to color then display is if you only used color pencils which I hardly ever do.

Markers won't bleed into the next designs
This is the first time I have ever bought this coloring book by this artist. I am very impressed though and will buy other books by author. These designs make using markers for design, completely perfect because there was no bleeding through to next design. The opposite pages had writing so I never worried about bleeding.

If you try one colouring book this year... choose THIS one. Colouring as you have never experienced it before!
Hands down, this is the best colouring book I have ever had the pleasure of viewing. This is an immersive experience, far superior to any other colouring book I've seen before. Not only is it a colouring book, but a fantastical adventure through the notebooks of a scientist (or madman, you decide!), discovering the ethereal Lumina. The content is simply top notch, and the way it is presented on the page is so new and intriguing, that it takes colouring books to a whole new level. Each page double spread contains the notes of one S.M. Smyth on parchment, and an illustration of the elusive Lumina, in addition to diagrams and images of all sorts of paraphernalia. It's as if you are falling into a visual story. It's enthralling, thrilling, and you cannot help but read on.Throughout, there are full pieces and little nuggets to colour, and fantastic tips on new colouring techniques and colour mixing ideas.I cannot recommend it highly enough. If you try one colouring book this year, try this one. This hidden gem blows all of the mainstream colouring bestsellers out of the water. Cristina - more, please!

If I had received Lumina book 1 first I would probably not have ordered book 2 which is far superior in it's artwork and design.
If I had received Lumina book 1 first I would probably not have ordered book 2 which is far superior in it's artwork and design. I have had a couple of other Cristina McAllister books which were absolutely beautiful to colour in [The Magical Beauties books]. This one not so much. I'm probably the only one who can't be bothered to read all the nonsense on the back of each picture - The stories of the Lumina - so after the first couple of pages I decided to use my sharpie pens and not bother about what was written on the back; I have been scanning through all the blurb and the ideas for colouring have been interesting - but then I go my own way! The paper is good quality [but still use card behind] and each picture is set in a black frame so it is not ruined if you cut the pages out as I usually do. However due to the 'storyline' behind this book I have decided to keep it intact!

Not really a colouring book. Read it as an adventure !
Personally, I would not call thus a colouring book.It is interesting as a story, come mystery.
