First Alert 4 Channel Digital Wireless Recording System with 7" LCD Display and 1 Digital Camera DWS-471

The camera works as specified but the full screen display is only an enlarged version of a quarter screen display. So if you are looking for a package that uses the whole resolution of the screen, look elsewhere.Tip: The camera started only recording a blue screen. This resulted because the monitor will only record a quad image even if you only have one camera (see resolution caveat above). At some point the quad image would only display blue thus the blue recording. First Alert recommended returning the unit but I tried just resetting the unit by running the battery to zero (the reset button doesn't reset the unit. It just powers it off). This worked.So if you can tolerate the low resolution it otherwise works well and the camera IR emitters do a great job.

I've had this system for about a year. It's a piece of sh/t out the box it would work fine but ,at certain times. It would freeze during recording or just record a blue screen which makes no sense to me. I called first alert directly and had it replaced free of charge the brand new model I was given had the exact same problem. This model is not sold at all but first alert anymore dws471. First alert is returning my money due to the products failure hopefully I don't end up really needing it while I return the unit back. Again don't buy this model get the newer one or find another brand not the dws471

It's a good product. Works as advertised. The only fault I found was the camera stand. It's doesn't secure the camera in position very well.

Have no complaints with this purchase, was so happy we have bought extra cameras to add to this system.

I have a great camera already but thought I would use this for my front door/yard because this seems like a neat little setup and I like the handheld monitor/recorder unit. I would have given it more stars but like another reviewer here, I had a problem with it only displaying a blank blue screen at times. When it does this, it will also only record a blank blue video. It will still show the icons in the blue screen for full wireless signal strength and the camera will detect motion and start a recording but, again, will only record the blue screen. What's odd is that you can push the zoom button and get a full screen picture from the camera but after a few minutes it goes back to the default quad screen view and only shows the blue screen again. The unit worked fine at setup and for a short time after installation, but after a couple hours it started this problem. This problem resolved itself a couple hours later, but, the next morning, while playing videos and such, it went back to that blue screen again. I'm taking it back to exchange and will update my review with my next experience. If you have a computer, wireless router, and 80 bucks more, I would recommend the Sharx 3905 Wireless IP cam with a self contained DVR. It has excellent reviews, far better quality, and tons of features.
