Picture Yourself Learning Corel PaintShop Pro X6

I gave it just 4 stars because, IMHO, there should be some examples to try out with clear and concise step by step instruction. There is none of that. If you want to understand a particular topic, you must read the chapter/s regarding that particular topic. Then try to figure it out on your own. Don't get me wrong here, it is a very good manual. If you have no clue about how to use PSP, this will give you all of the information on how to accomplish or understand the different subjects needed for organizing ("work flow"..why do they have to use complicated titles for stuff?) and editing.For those of us who can't afford Adobe Photo Shop (or even understand it), PSP is affordable and great for more advanced DSL users. It is great for both JPEG and RAW photos. Editing is more advanced. So, if you are new to this advanced technology, you need this book. It will give you a better, fuller knowledge of the program. I am the biggest fan in the world of AMAZON; my rule of thumb is that if something is handled exclusively by AMAZON IT IS GREAT. Sorry, this book is mediocre. It contains an offer of add-ons a few pages into the book and the author uses an incorrect ISBN number which corresponds to COREL PaintSHOP Pro X5 not x6 and when I tried to get assistance from the publisher it was impossible. Please buy the Program from AMAZON because the program is wonderful; and COREL technical support is also wonderful. I purchased a one year subscription directly from COREL to get rapid assistance directly from COREL for one year for $69.00. The technicians are great and COREL support which is inside the program is better than this book. Use the money that you would have spent for the book and spend it towards the subscription. Sorry, to my friends at AMAZON, this book is not as user friendly as the one year subscription to tech support call 877-582-6735

Sorry: In a recent packaging review I confused the program with the book, both of which I both ordered and received. Therefore, when I denied ownership of the book, I was wrong. I don't wish to review the book yet, though I assume it is good, like Corel products in general: we've used WordPerfect since 1985. This probably should not be posted but at least it's a message to Amazon itself. I couldn't correct the packaging review except to say that it came on time and as expected. No complaints. JCM

Clearly written and well-organized. The developer's video tutorials are great, but not comprehensive and hard to go back to find forgotten details. I've been using PaintShop Pro for over a decade. When I jumped from X to X6 I decided to be diligent to really learn the program. This book really helps get me up to speed.This is a great and rich graphics program with a very modest purchase price (and no forever fees like Photoshop!). It has great capability beyond just re-touching photos. Too bad there are so few books as guides to what it can do. This volume is a good start.

Book was well produced, well written, and had good graphics. It described many of the things I was expecting in such a book, but I was disappointed with the depth of coverage.For example, a dialog box might have several main features, which were well described. But those dialogs with "Advance" buttons had no description at all.For those with experience with Adobe Elements (I had version 6), the book covered familiar topics. I was hoping to get some explanation of the advanced topics so the book had just incremental value added for me. But for those with little previous experience with photo editing software, I think the book would be very useful (4 star).

This book is a helpful but doesn't always answer questions I have about the software (e.g., it defines saturation but not variance). This book is three upgrades behind the current edition of the X9 software, so its screenshots and instructions are often out of date. Nevertheless, it's a useful but incomplete reference.

Just commenced to read first 3 chapters that gives in a good idea of the program and what is involved. This is a well written book with a "down to earth" explanations as to how you use "Corel PaintShop ProX6". If you get Corel Paintshop ProX6 (Disc)I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU Purchase this Book. Am work through Program and Taking "small steps" to learn........I have to read things several times for it to "sink in". Doing about about a "Chapter a Week/or Two" after understanding the first 3 chapters.

Detailed and to the point.

I own a copy of Paintshop Pro X7 and bought this as the X7 version of the book is not available. It seems to be mostly relevant as I assume the upgrades from X6 to X7 are minor. Seems ok but not an idiot's guide and contains info on stuff I'm not interested in as I only do photo editing. I will update this review later when I have used the book more.
