True Clowes Fans Won't Be Disappointed
I have a big collection of Mr. Clowes' work and have kind of grown up with him (if you call mid-high-school to mid-forties "growing up") from Lloyd Llewellyn to Patience. I really enjoyed this book. I'll tell you this: after I finished my first read, I immediately went back and read it again. It's that kind of book. Well, lots of Clowes work is like that, I guess. I am so thankful that Mr. Clowes has created such an epic work at this stage in his career. It could have been so easy to produce a shorter work but he's given us fans a great gift. The artwork is great, the story is exciting and the characters are plentiful. I'd stay away from reviews that say it's "this meets this meets this." It's Dan Clowes. Read it.

A whirlwind, roller coaster ride of a story by a comics genius.
Clowes is officially a genius of the comic art form, any and all of his work is worthy of attention. PATIENCE ended up a being a total whirlwind, rollercoaster ride of a story! I had no idea what it was about and I suggest you read it with as little knowledge of the plot as possible going in!

Clowes is back.
Stupendous. If there was any worry that Dan Clowes had declined, this work will firmly restate the opposite. I have been following Clowes' work since "Eightball" #1. This is a mature graphic novel containing meditations on the nature of love. I highly recommend it. It is among his best stories. I received this in the mail yesterday and immediately sat down for the 2 hours required and read it all the way through. At the end I was sad, and gratified.

I loved it soo much
I loved it soo much. Thank you once again, Mr. Clowes. A great story, and an excellent execution. And the ending was way more satisfying than I even thought would be possible. All in all a terrific piece of work, and one I will not quickly forget. As soon as I read it I was immediately inspired to give my copy away to a friend in the hopes of creating another Clowes fan. I will almost certainly by a second copy sometime soon.

Clowes has not lost his touch
Having read almost everything by Clowes, I was worried about him jumping the shark with this book. However, my fears were unfounded. Clowes very much remains a master, not just of the graphical medium, but also of the art of storytelling. Firstly, the story is very memorable. Secondly, the narrative is well-paced, and unfurls the story at just the right speed. Thirdly, the quintessential Clowesian peppering of self-loathing brings everything together. Finally, for those who are still not convinced that they should to read this book, I performed a purely visual test. I opened random pages from Mr. Wonderful, Wilson, Ghost World, David Boring, The Death-Ray, Pussey, Caricature, Ice Haven and even Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron. Each work is quite distinct, visually. Patience is no mere recycling of (visual) themes or (plot) tropes. Two thumbs up.

Also this first edition by Fantagraphics is absolutely beautiful: hard cover
Very moving an well told story, now I understand why Daniel Clowes has such a faithful fanbase. I had never read anything by him and now am truly impressed. Also this first edition by Fantagraphics is absolutely beautiful: hard cover, special mirror-like ink on the title, vibrant colors, thick pages, fine printing.A collectible, really.

'Patience' review - SPOILER FREE
To say that 'Patience' is one of the most eagerly anticipated graphic novels of all time is no exaggeration. Daniel Clowes' degree of both commercial and critical success is just about unrivalled in modern times, especially when considering his background is firmly rooted in the underground side of the comic industry rather than the DC/Marvel thing. His last published original work was 'Wilson', back in 2010, and since then, we've seen little and heard almost nothing. But the long six-year wait is finally over, 'Patience' has arrived, and as Clowes fans across the world turn over the eye-catching front cover and submerge themselves in his new 178 page offering, there will be a collective wondering: 'has it been worth the wait?' My answer is an unequivocal 'YES!' - Clowes has once again proved that he is incapable of producing anything other than wonderful pieces of art. It's well known that this latest offering concerns time travel, and apart from one or two humorous shorts from the 'Eightball' era, Clowes has never attempted anything quite like this before. In fact, when it was first announced that his upcoming work would be a psychedelic science-fiction love story, it probably left a lot of Clowes fans caught between breathless excitement and mild confusion. Sounds...interesting, but...science fiction? Psychedelia? Time Travel? What is this, a lost Philip K. Dick novel? What of the wistful nostalgia? What of the empty, silent streets echoing life's regrets and missed opportunities? How will society's outsiders and their existential concerns fit into this?Well, have no fear, because 'Patience' is classic Clowes and possibly his most complete work to date. It certainly touches upon all of the above themes and lots, lots more. I'm not yet sure it's my favourite work of his - for me, 'Velvet Glove' and 'Ice Haven' are hard to beat - but it's certainly up there with not only his best but also the best of any cartoonists or writers currently working.I recently read a negative (but very articulate and informed) review of 'Patience' on Amazon.com, which states that commercial and critical success have not had a positive effect on Dan Clowes' work and that 'Patience' is 'sour, clunky and overwritten...flat characters...no suspense', and is a struggle to complete. Well, each to their own - it's obviously good to get different opinions - but I see absolutely no evidence of those complaints. I received the book yesterday, have read it twice already and loved it more on the second reading. I breezed through it and the taut narrative kept me hooked from page one right through to the end. Yes, I know, I'm the partisan crowd, but 'sour and clunky'? A lack of suspense? No, no, no! And the only nod I see towards commercialisation is that 'Patience' would clearly make a great movie. Don't be surprised if you see it on the big screen sometime soon.I don't want to write too much more for fear of spoiling it but let me say that 'Patience' may be best described as a cross between 'Mr Wonderful', Clowes' bittersweet love story, and the multi-layered time-folding of 'Predestination' or 'Back To The Future'. The vast majority of existing Clowes fans will absolutely gollop it down in one sitting, and for those who haven't read anything by him before, I would say this is possibly his most accessible work to date and a great place to start.

Patience is a virtuoso performance
just wonderful.... Tremendous art from a master of the craft. The colouring is out if this world. As an old time comics reader this was a delight, echoes of the likes of Ditko's weird and wonderful tales. A real treat...

Interesting read and beautiful visual depiction
Good adult graphic novel. While the story echoes ones you’ve basically heard before it is well written and drawings are classical for comic books. Would recommend
