What is the advantage of using this versus just using a microfiber cleaning cloth?

This is a microfiber mitt, with a cuff, that you put your hand into. However, I found that this mitt was too large for my hand, and I could not get a grip on it on the inside. For this reason, I would recommend a microfiber cloth/towel if you intend to apply any kind of cleaner or protectant. I use a wash mitt for washing my car, but not this one."

Does this get too heavy when full of water?

Not so much, I admit it depends heavily on your arm strength but I didn't have any trouble. If you feel too heavy you can squeeze some water anyway.

How do people with normal size hands/wrists use this mitt? It's HUGE! I ordered one and it falls right off.

Yes, you're exactly right, Jenn. I noted in my review about my mitt having a "large" tag on it, but yet there's no where to choose a size when purchasing one. I manage to get by with mine (although it is sloppy on my hand/wrist). I don't know if a heavy rubber band might work for you, or having it tied around your wrist? Maybe you could just use it as you would a large sponge instead of using it as a mitt. Just a couple of thoughts. Hope you come up with something. :)

Is it machine washable?

Machine wash in hot water. Then, dry on the delicate cycle only.Make certain you wash and dry this microfiber mitt only with other microfiber items otherwise you will have excessive lint on your microfiber mitt and towels.
