Kyle Craig Publishing How To Play Keyboard: A Complete Guide for Absolute Beginners

Very basic, but not quite basic enough for an absolute beginner
I 'm effectively a beginner on keyboard, but with reasonable musical knowledge from other instruments. The book introduces keyboard concepts well (e.g. keyboard functions)- but not piano, it doesn't get your left hand moving well enough.I raced through the first half of the book in my first session, but for an absolute beginner it doesn't give enough detail e.g. how to count half beats, or give any tips on how to make sure you've got the right rhythm. The exercises were all pretty basic and don't build to anything even approaching difficult so it's pretty easy to complete the book and not have a great understanding of how to actually play.I tried to teach myself to play about 20 years ago, and stopped after a year or so. At that point I was using a beginner piano book and if I still had that would find it much more useful. There were more tips on technique, more exercises and tunes to learn, and the tunes were more interesting. I wish I still had that book, or could find it to buy.I think this book would really suit someone with a little musical knowledge who wants to transfer it to keyboard. The book is really a taster to see if you want to learn properly.

Not what I wanted
It is basically explaining in a rudimentary way how to read music. It does not in my opinion explain how to play the keyboard. Every instrument is played in a certain way,I wanted to know how to play the left hand or harmony or rhythm part, call it what you will, this it does not do hence not a lot of good for me. Maybe others will find it useful.

Don't waste your money like I did
Don't waste your money like I did. After a few pages it's quite hard to follow. Instead, watch a few lessons on YouTube, and if you like it, invest in proper lessons with a human being.

Utterly Confusing and not at all thought out
Very dissapointed. Not at all a book for an absolute beginner. Goes straight into notations/concepts naming suck things like quavers, ledger, treble cleft and god know what. This is not particularly keyboard specific book at all. There is no progressive approach or a methodical/didactic manner as far as I can see. I also bought Kennet Baker book number 1 and it is far more keyboard orientated and talks more about the different attributes, functions of a keyboard. I recommend the latter book I have mentioned for its progressive approach.
