Whitefly: A Novel (Hoopoe Fiction)

"Crafty" police detective Laafrit in Tangier is given a case of the mysterious bodies washed ashore; one very different from the others. He is tenacious and thorough in his investigation. His search takes him from one end of Morocco to the other, and even across the Straight of Gibraltar to Spain. From nightclubs to farming fields, he doesn't stop until he solves the mystery.I enjoyed the story. I looked up a couple words that I didn't know. The whole theory behind the mystery was fantastical, but believable. I gave it 4 stars because I thought it ended too abruptly with some plot strings unattended.

Book came today and is in excellent condition.

This is a wells written crime novel from the African continent. That is exactly what I was looking for. I’m sure not everything translated in the English edition. But, it is evident that this apt author has something to tell.I enjoyed it. I’ll be reading more from Hamdouchi in my appreciation of African authors. And, it’s helpful in a season of life when I can’t travel and see such places in person.

Book chosen by my book club. Interesting to read about the culture in Morocco. Had an unexpected twist at the end.

This was the last book I taught in my literature class and the students loved it! It offered so much more than your usual thriller. Beautifully translated, it is contemporary fiction at its best.

enjoyed this novel by a moroccan writer. To an American reader it seemed like the reader was getting a glimpse of what's going on today while reading an engaging story.
