Fun vacation read
This book felt very teenage (and I'm not a teenager); it was an enjoyable light read while on vacation. A bit of romance, a bit of mystery, lots of fashion.

4 stars entertaining read
Synopsis: Gia is a very rich girl who lives with her father and brother in a mansion that has 6 floors and even an elevator in place. When she gets back from a shopping spree one day her father informs his children that he has decided that they’ll each get a fulltime bodyguard. It’s true that once upon a time her father was a famous actor but that was some 20 years ago and you can safely say he’s not as famous anymore. He claims he his reasons, however, and the decision is not open for reconsideration. When she meets her bodyguard Jack she’s swept of her feet because he is one hot piece of man candy. He’s not making it easy for her, simply by always being around. She doesn’t really see the point in having somebody guarding her until she receives weird text messages and calls. Someone is keeping an eye on her and the texts are signed with Dr. D. When an attack pointed at her goes awry and someone else becomes a victim she is more than determined to find out who’s behind it. With the help of Jack and police cadet Milo she tries to uncover who is responsible for all the stalking, scaring and tormenting. With the Golden Globes just around the corner and with Gia who just scored the role of Miss Golden Globe at the event, the danger rises that she might not even make it to the end of the ceremony at all. It seems she’s not so lucky after all.Opinion: The level of craziness in this chicklit is quite high. Gia’s character is hilarious and made me smile a lot. When she’s nervous she starts speaking British and even when she’s not, she has the habit of blabbering and spitting out the most ridiculous and far-fetched excuses and explanations. The best part is that she always gets away with it too. The focus of the story for me was not so much on the mystery but more on the tension between Gia and her love interests and the wild goose-chase that she undertakes with Jack, which leads them from the Dumpling Hospital (a restaurant with a décor of a hospital I kid you not) where she finds important evidence of someone’s unhealthy focus on her, to a student fraternity and the Coco Club where she has to sneak into with a fake ID, all the while wearing the most unfashionable outfits for some reason or other. The story was certainly entertaining, I liked Gia’s character, she was gutsy and funny and I loved the banter between her and Jack. The motive for the stalking was a bit outdated if I might say but don’t be mistaken, it did have a good dose of action towards the end that was quite enjoyable. The only thing I had a bit of a problem with was that she’s instantly feeling electricity the moment she meets Jack when he touches her but when she sees Milo, her focus shifts with the bat of an eye and it’s suddenly all Milo she wants, yet I still felt the attraction to Jack too. Sweet, reliable Jack who puts up with all of her theatrics, he deserves a trophy on his own. No given the choice, I’d know who I would choose.*I received a free copy from Netgalley and the author in exchange for my honest opinion*If you liked reading my honest opinion, please give me a helpful vote so I can get closer to the top reviewers. Entertaining Fluffy Chick-Lit
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. This is book is the first for author Saba Kapur and it’s not a bad effort at all. The story revolves around Gia Winters, a rich teen living a life where what brand you wear doesn’t help you stand out so much, with a famous overprotective actor for a father, a whirlwind ex Playboy bunny for a mom and a moody brother going through a ‘phase’. The gist of the story is this; after threats to his family Gia’s father hires bodyguards for himself and his children; cue hot mysterious bodyguard Jack and Gia’s attempts to dissuade him from wanting to remain her bodyguard because, hey total invasion of privacy! Okay that was sarcasm. If my dad were to hire me a bodyguard I would be all flattered that he cared so much. I didn’t really get why Gia was being so difficult to be honest, her reasoning seemed flimsy. In fact a lot of her reasoning made no sense to me and why Jack went along with any of it was beyond me. Her plans seemed counterproductive to his job goal. That being said Gia is quite likeable. She’s funny and relatable most of the time. Sure she’s rich but doesn’t come off as snobby and therefore unlikeable. This book even had me snorting out loud and for me I think that’s and awesome compliment. I adored Jack of course but I did think the fact that he gave into Gia’s childish schemes was a bit silly. The love triangle came out of nowhere and I honestly don’t think it added anything to the story line. In fact I was waiting for Gia and Jack’s relationship to progress further and felt sort of cheated when it didn’t. Then that little bombshell Jack drops in the end, WHAT! WHY?!All in all, not bad but I do think it needs some work. The story line dragged on too long in my opinion but I would definitely be interested in reading the next book. Two and a half stars for me which I’m going to round up to 3.

Humorous, but full of out-dated references
Lucky Me by Saba Kapur jumps into the action from the get-go. Lucky for readers it's a pretty engaging story. Gia Winters is a privileged eighteen-year-old who has been unluckily targeted by a "Dr. D" who threatens to ruin her moment. For the most part, this book was funny, intriguing, and fun.Likes:Gia was a great main character. Her voice is strong, funny, honest, and undeniably that of a stereotypical spoiled brat. She was perfect for carrying the story from start to finish, despite her sometimes inconsistent interactions and feelings for people. The main reason I stuck with this book aside from Gia was that it's an actual mystery that was being unraveled before my eyes. I made my guesses. They were wrong. It's always great when a book (movie, tv show, etc.) really makes you guess who-done-it. See below for what drove me crazy about this...Dislikes:Yes, there is a mystery and I liked that. What I didn't like was that it didn't need to be a mystery of who it was at all. You'd have to read the story to understand what I mean, but when the person is revealed I was like "seriously?"This book is absolutely littered with out-dated references that an 18-year-old from 2016 would not make. Like, 90's references. A lot of the actors the main character likes are older men, and, with the exception of George Clooney and Leo DiCaprio, I don't really believe she'd have an inkling of attraction to all these older men.Full review available at [...]

Irritating heroine
Didn't keep my focus. Main character was super annoying. It's really annoying because I can see the potential for a great book there. But this book annoyed me more than it entertained me.
