The remarkable feature on this bowl is the huge, fully intact heartwood mark displayed on it opposing sides. Rarely will the center of any tree dry without significant cracking as the water rushes to leave the wood when felled. However, the maple that produced this piece died and aged fully upright, allowing the center to slowly dry and be carved without destroying the surrounding grain. In other words, this is a rare bowl that is as beautiful as it is functional. Our handmade items can not be offered here long, as our retailers are now asking for inventory for the spring shopping season. We can price this one at roughly 50% less than it will sell in a boutique, which is where it will be before the end of the month. So act fast!! This particular bowl is 100% food safe, finished entirely with olive oil and an oil/beeswax wax blend.
