As I type this, the book is £19 which is an absolute steal. Certainly the best looking book on Hitch available. Taschen just scream quality for your money. 688 pages !! In A beautiful hardback book with small dustjacket that reveals a wrap around image of Hitch with a bird on his arm. The first part of the book is a bio on him split into 3 parts covering specific years. Then it's onto the movies themselves. Some incredible pictures printed lovingly. Beautifully presented and worth every penny. Essential.

The answer is yes if it is as good as the Complete Films published by Tashen. The bibliography at the back of the book lists dozens of biographies, memoirs, and critical appraisals on Hitchcock and Paul Duncan's book manages to pull everything together in a readable and analytical manner. Duncan himself writes a critical appraisal which forms the first third of the book. What follows is a film by film study written by a dozen authors. One of the most appealing elements is the way in which hundreds of photographs illustrate the narrative. Most of these photographs are unfamiliar and depict stills from the films being discussed together with shots of Hitchcock directing. It could be said that if you could only own one book about Alfred Hitchcock this should be the one, although such is the appeal of the director that another one will no doubt come along and warrant the same praise. In the meantime Paul Duncan's book will have pride of place on my Hitchcock book shelf.

On opening the package of this book I was terribly disappointed to discover that I had anticipated a huge "coffee-table" sized book to actually put on my coffee table..only to discover the book is only slightly larger than A4 size!! To say I am let down is an under statement as all the previous reviews raved about the quality and content of this HItchcock book-which I admit is accurate-but not one person mentioned the size of the book! I might have therefore re thought this book for purchase had I known its dimensions! A let-down!

Purchased as a gift am told a very good book.

Nothing really new about this book but it's a great launchpad to find out more elsewhere.
