The Teddy Bears' Picnic Board book – February 26, 1998

Bought it for a baby shower gift and the new mom loved it!

My kid is obsessed with teddy bears and this is the perfect book to go along with the song, so we read it often. There is a wierd page that's a little scary though, where a bear is looking menacingly at the reader, it threw me off the first time I read the book lol!!

Amazon's ad for "The Teddy Bears' Picnic (Board Book), illustrated by Bruce Whatley, states: "Jerry Garcia joins with David Grisman to create...version of this classic song. A cassette recording is packaged in the back of this new picture book version...." This ad is wrong! The "Board Book" DOES NOT HAVE A CASSETTE. This was a great disappointment to me. I recently bought this because I wanted to give the "board book" with the cassette as a baby gift. In 1999, I purchased several copies of "The Teddy Bears' Picnic" with illustrations (Copyright 1996) by Bruce Whatley, copies that are not board books, are larger, and were packaged with the cassette of Gerry Garcia and David Grisman's music and song! My husband and I kept one set and gave the others as gifts that continue to be loved by grandchildren, young friends, and their parents! These books have been used many times, the cassettes used enough to delight but not enough to be worn out, and both have received good care. Some have appreciated in value. How nice it would be if the "Board Book" had the cassette with it. Of course, a baby can enjoy holding or even chewing a board book earlier than a regular book while listening to parents or grandparents enthusiastically read or sing "The Teddy Bear's Picnic." Children find the drawings delightful. Older people notice that two of the bears look remarkably like Garcia and Grisman. Still, children who won't get to hear Jerry Garcia and David Grisman's musical contribution to this book will be missing something special.

The Teddy Bears' Picnic is a story my grandmother (from England) read to me when I was a child and we listened to the record (a really "78" thick record)every day. I have read the story to all my grandchildren and they loved it too. I now have twin grandchildren 17 months old and when I bring out the book they run with excitement and leap on my lap saying "Teddy Bear". I was hoping to keep this tradition in my family for years and when traveling in England have always purchased new books.This is a great story and the song is so much fun. I encourage you to purchase one and read it to your grand children.

Great little book for Deadheads to read to their grandkids. Ok, anyone's kids will probably like it :) I got mine for the grandkids I will have someday!But do be aware of used copies. I already gave the seller a negative review, so I'm not doing that to the book itself -- the book is just fine. I knew that my used copy did not include the cassette tape. What I did not know is that the missing tape leaves a HUGE gaping hole in the back, because there is a cutout for the tape to fit into and stick out the back of the book.And in my case, it was a former library book, so it had stickers on it and rubber-stamped library info on the front and back pages. I'll probably look for a copy that is in better condition and has the tape included.

We love this little book. The words Re exactly like the song Teddy Bears Picnic. We gave it as a present to our granddaughter along with the song. She loves it 😍

Super cute!

I purchased this classic book to use with a family literacy group. We had a Teddy Bear Picnic in the park, and the preschool age children brought their own teddy bears and stuffed animals. The kids loved the book and listened attentively as I read, which can be challenging with 3-5 year olds. Great book to go with my theme and beautiful illustrations.
