Gold Star Ballroom Series: Tango

There are a few good tangos here. A charitable reading of the non-tangos is that these are meant as competition tracks? The first eight tracks have some merit. Much of the last half of the disc sounds synthesized and has NO pizzazz. The last track is a welcome exception, with a good female vocal. The disc was produced in Holland in 2003. What were they thinking?The titles are listed with both the duration and the measures per minute (mpm). The tempos vary from 30-33 mpm. I like only the second part of the recording.

THIS TANGO CD IS A MIX OF VOCAL AND INSTRUMENTAL TRACKS. SOME OF THE NUMBERS ARE TRADITIONAL TANGOS SUCH AS CUMPARSITA, OLE GUAPA, A MEDIA LUZ, HERNANDO`S HIDE AWAY, BUT THERE ARE ALSO VERSIONS OF GREEN GREEN GRASS OF HOME, TAKE ME TO THE RIVER, AND LITTLE DRUMMER BOY??THE CD HAS 18 TRACKS IN TOTAL AND OTHER TRACKS INCLUDE....O SOLE MIO. CARA MIA, GUITAR TANGO, LA PALOMA, MUSIC OF THE NIGHT, AND OTHER WELL KNOWN TUNES. OVERALL, THE SOUND QUALITY IS VERY GOOD. THE TEMPOS FOR TANGO ARE OK, AND RANGE BETWEEN 30 AND 33 BPM. APART FROM TRACK DETAILS, THERE IS NO OTHER INFORMATION.IT`S A BIT OF A MIXED BAG, IN MY OPINION. SOME TRACKS CAPTURE THE TANGO AND WORK VERY WELL, BUT OTHERS ARE LACKING IN INTERPRETATION AND STYLE. IN MANY WAYS IT "DOES THE JOB", BUT IT WOULD NOT BE MY FIRST (OR EVEN SECOND) CHOICE FOR A TANGO CD.
