Like the author says : use this book as a glossary. Great for old folks like me that only understand batting averages and ERA and RBIs . Realizing the new sabermetrics are an important tool of the game for understanding how good or bad players are. He is in depth on the subject, yet makes it easy to understand the statistic, and why it is important. I'm guessing if your in baseball management you need to know everything in this book religiously to build a winning team. But I'm just a guy who likes watching baseball and is confused by all the stats they put up on the screen nowadays. This will make this season's October more enjoyable still.

New Baseball fans, and seasoned veterans, will benefit from reading this comprehensive and entertaining treatment of the modern statistics used in baseball. The author injects his clear love of the game into the pages as he demonstrates how history has misjudged the contributions of many players. He assists his reader in understanding what those complex measurements are, and gives worked real-life examples. Each chapters deals with different statistics and the different benefits to employing them in our evaluation of players. If you read only one book defending the modern statistical instruments used to determine the contributions of baseball players: make it this one.

Really in depth book explaining the new metrics or baseball 'numbers'. Great read and good explaination of today's game.

Old school baseball fan caved in, wanted to know more about the advanced metrics. The book is a fast read, fun and filled with examples past and present with relatable comparisons to great performances by any measure. If you’re one of the last hold outs, this book is a fast way to catch up. I’ll still be referencing throughout the year for the more complex formulas, but I will take my newfound knowledge and an updated perspective into the 2025 season.

Previously read Smart Baseball. This author explained in a simpler way the newer stats in the game of Baseball, personally I could understand the subject easier. Will be referring back to the book from time to time.
