Great hold, no build up
I have very thick hair and this controls it nicely without overly thick product. I do not have any issues with my sensitive scalp, and by end of the day, I can sleep without crunchy build up hair making my skin break out. Love this!

A great high quality hair product!
Love this stuff! I used to buy it from my salon but the prices got out of hand! The product gives a "wet/scuplted" look to your hair if allowed to air dry, or you can add volume and control if blow dried.

Just ok
The consistency of the product was good, the hold was just average. I was looking for something in between a gel and a pomade, and this probably was more on my part looking for a product to do some thing it wasn’t designed to do. It had a reasonably good hold, and whether I used it as a pre-styling product, or once my hair was dry, it just didn’t seem to have the whole I was looking for.

Strong, but natural looking hold
Holds hair in place, without looking sticky or greasy.

Does nothing
Used just about the whole bottle. No visible results at all. Not as good as Clairol Shimmer Lights. I would not buy again or recommend this product if you are looking to brighten grey hair. It simply does not do that.

great hold, pricey
I generally use strong or ultimate hold gel products for my hair. I like the control they offer. When I got this Vaughn Control Strong Hold balm, I thought, "It's a balm, how well can it hold...." Wow, was I ever wrong.I have short thick hair. I apply it in the morning before I head to the office and my hair doesn't move until I get home. It holds very well.It comes with a decent fragrance, quite different from the smell I'm used to with gels, and I like it.It's also packed with goodies, honey, shea butter, soy protein that nourish your hair, which most gels dont do.It washes out with a bit of extra scrubbing and the applicator is a little clumsy. It's more liquid than you expect, so being upside down when you squeeze it out, it can be a little messy. The real downside is for the price you pay, I can get 5 times as much from a very good hair salon gel.So while I do like this product, I can't justify the price with so many good hair gels out there UNLESS you go for products that are paraben free, sulfate, petrolatum and mineral oil free, while nourishing your hair (Shea butter, argon oil, soy protein, honey) in which case this product is fantastic.

"Strong Hold" not quite strong enough for my crazy head of hair.
This stuff is a miss for me. While I think it smells good, and it does rinse out easily it just doesn't work at taming my hair nearly as well as I expected for something that claims "strong hold" and comes out of the bottle as tacky as it does. So, I have crazy cowlicks resulting from multiple crowns. It's not an easy task to keep it from sticking up all over the place even when my hair is medium length but it's not impossible I have other products that do a great job at it without resorting to full blown hair gels that harden like rocks. While I'm overall satisfied with the results this had on "normal" parts of my head, if it doesn't work for my whole head I just won't bother using it.The bright side is that where you are able to use it sparingly it doesn't end up feeling like product in your hair, well at least not to any extent that it becomes bothersome. The dark side is that I had to use so much to get any effect on my cowlicks that it did end up feeling gross in that area and even then it things were still sticking up. Starting with damp hair as instructed, I worked it in with my fingers, I tried combing, allowed time to dry attempting to hold the offending hair down... it just isn't up to the task. This product is also too runny for my taste, when I tried using it for the first time I got way more than I bargained for out of the bottle.I really like other V76 products but this just doesn't seem to be awesome if you need any kind of real hair correction. For someone who has hair that looks almost great straight out of the shower I can see this doing a good job for them but if you're part of the double or triple crown club you probably want to use something else as your first line of defense.

Embarrassing, white flaky residue
While I like the fragrance of this product I would not recommend it.My son's and I have been reviewing hair care products for a year now and we've never had a product that behaved this way.We used this in my sons wet, clean hair just after showering. This product gave a good, strong hold while maintaining a bit of a wet look. We only used a small amount and it seemed we got a lot of hold. The next day we were headed out the door to do some shopping and I noticed something was in his hair (picture attached). It was a bunch of white flaky residue. It looked terrible and we had to drop everything to wash his hair in the sink right then and there.I don't give many 1 star reviews. I understand that this product would be better applied in the morning after showering and not slept on at night. But over the past year we've tried numerous similar and less costly products that have never, under no circumstance left us with such an embarrassing looking issue with our hair that we needed to wash it out.

Was able to get it to work for me
As indicated by the product page, this product has the following propertiesHold level: StrongShine level: HighGreat for: Sculpted strands and polished stylesI completely agree, the level of shine is mirror-like in nature. It will create a wet gelled look in your hair. The hold is probably the strongest of this product line, but it is not strong comparative to other brands. Your hair will still be able to flex and move and reshape. The smell is somewhere between pleasant and chemical in nature and perhaps a little overwhelming if you use a lot of product. I like that it is free of sulfates, petroleum, and mineral oils. It is also made from vegan products. And it’s made right across the border in the USA.The product has a very runny texture – not wax or even gel like. I found I had better luck with it when I used it in conjunction with a blow drier. This quickly made the runny texture a little stiffer where I could easily form my hair into the shape I wanted – and then blow dry some more to lock it in.

I’d call it medium hold rather than strong
I have old grey stuff (hair) that doesn’t agree with anything I want to do so I’m always on the lookout for a product that will tame the stuff. Unfortunately this balm doesn’t help my situation. It says strong on the tube but I’d call it more like medium. I was really expecting to get something closer to helmet hair and ended with something more like Gumby (sorry millennials, you’ll have to look that one up).In general it does an ok job on the less rebellious hairs but I don’t need them tamed down, I need something that will offer control of the spirals and hockey stick portion of the crew. This is a fairly fluid lotion, far more so than I was expecting. In my mind it would be more like a paste rather than shampoo. First squeeze resulted in way too much product. With the hair wet it works in easily enough. I used both suggested methods, working in with the fingers and combing. In general the obedient hairs can be shaped nicely and will hold shaping for the day so in that sense I can see it doing a good job for the average person who doesn’t suffer from Silver Back syndrome. While in use I can’t say that I feel as if I have a lot of product on my head and it rinses out easily enough in the evenings. Also on the upside, my scalp hasn’t reacted negatively to the stuff. While there are some natural products in the ingredients list there are also a hockey sock full of chemicals and the scent gives this away immediately. I don’t care for the quasi hospital antiseptic odour the stuff has and I find it sticks around for most of the day.To my thinking, with normal hair the cost isn’t justified, no matter the shift to more natural ingredients.
