Loved it Again!
I wanted to love this diaper pail and for the first six months I did. It is a beautiful diaper pail and I love the color. We bought the purple and it looks great in her nursery. When it is working properly, we didn't have a single issue with smell. Then the diaper opening mechanism broke. My husband tried to fix it but it doesn't open all the way b/c something was broken inside. So you have open it and shove the diapers down! Gross!! Well now today it won't close so there is horrible diaper smell all around it. Gag me! Also if the bag is full, the sides of it will rip the bag so be careful not to let it get too full. I sent an email to the company and never got a response. UPDATE: After my review, the President of the company contacted me and sent a new top. It was shipped out quickly and very easy to change out. Now that the top is fixed, I love it all over again!! And all of the huge diapers fit in the hole without me touching anything!! And even with a full bag, there is no smell with this diaper pail. One thing I didn't mention in my previous review is how much I love the fact that you can use any trash bags that you want. So much easier and cheaper than using manufacturer specific bags!

updated review -- provided a replacement top and high hopes this one will work fine
updated review. the customer service is great from this company. they immediately shipped me the new top and didn't even ask for proof via photo etc. i'm hopeful that this top will work for a long time since i love this diaper paid because its a great modern look plus has two closings to keep the smell contained. ______ I would have given this a 5+++ star but sadly the pail has broken on me twice. the first time the inside metal sliding piece got stuck half way open -- which really defeats the purpose of having two closures to keep out the smell. luckily that fixed itself somehow after a few weeks. however, just a week ago another piece broke -- this time it was the hinge on the opening. it broke completely (see photo) and now I will have to get a new diaper pail after only 5 months. if i didn't have these issues, i would have given this a great review. i love the paid overall in terms of effectiveness (really don't smell the diapers, can hold a lot of diapers, you can use any garbage bag so you don't have to pay for expensive refills) and looks (modern design is really nice and love the grey color). i'm hoping that Bubula will do the right thing and send me a replacement to stand behind their product and prove that this is an unusual situation to have multiple pieces break after just 5 months.

A solid diaper pail from a great company
An update/replacement of my previous review. (tl;dr: it's great so far). I received a broken unit as an open box model from Warehouse Deals. I would normally just blame any damage on shipping or the "open box" nature of the order, but I was concerned because other reviewers had mentioned the exact same point of failure: the latch that closes the primary cover, where dirty diapers are placed. So I chalked it up to an actual product defect and prepared to return the item to Amazon. However, before I did that, Bubula contacted me and promised to make it right. They claimed that some of the units did indeed leave the factory with an overlooked defect, and they offered to send me a replacement part to get my Bubula working. I think that's just solid customer service, and not every company would do that, especially for someone who bought a used item. The new lid was shipped quickly (arriving incidentally while I was at the hospital with my wife, who was delivering our daughter), and it was easy to swap out the part with a screwdriver. The piece that broke in the first model has indeed been completely redesigned, and it looks much more robust and durable. Through a little more than a week of hard use (with a newborn going through 10-12 diapers a day), the Bubula has performed very well. Newborn, breastfed babies don't really make stinky diapers, so I can't speak to its ultimate odor reduction capabilities, but the room is indeed stink-free so far. Ask me again when she starts solid foods next year. I like the look of the thing, the fact that the can is stainless steel, the fact that it comes in many colors, and that it requires only regular kitchen trash bags. I believe the defect that affected a small number of products has been fixed, and I respect the company for acknowledging the problem and offering to help me out. They've really been great about the whole thing. While I only have a short time with the Bubula so far, I expect that it will perform well as one of the best diaper pails available today. Update: Four months in, and I think the Bubula really is the best option out there for diaper disposal. Friends and family are frequently lamenting their more popular diaper pail's reliance on proprietary bag refills and such, as well as things like broken plastic gears that render a cheaper unit useless. I've used the Bubula every day for four months, and it's as good as the day the first soggy diaper crossed its stainless threshold. No messes, no stains, no odors (other than the scented/neutralizing kitchen bags we use). I'm a fan, but I still have yet to test it with truly stinky solid food diapers. The thing seals well, so I believe it will be as good or better than any other available solution out there.

Great until it broke!
We have had the Bubula for about 3 weeks now and have loved it, but the top lid broke this evening with normal use. It has been great with keeping smells locked inside, but I didn't expect a $90 diaper pail to break after 3 weeks of normal use. I was frustrated thinking I didn't even know how it could have gotten broken, but now I'm reading reviews about units that were defective and that they've improved the pieces. It's unfortunate that so many models were sent out with the faulty pieces. EDITED TO ADD: I went through the steps to be sent a new one and send the old one back. When the new one arrived, before even taking it all the way out of the box, I noticed that the top lid does not close and stay shut. We are now going to try and ship both back. I was REALLY hoping that the issue had been fixed so that we could continue using this product. In order to get the lid to shut on the new order, you feel like you have to break the lid. Simply pushing the lid down doesn't do anything and it just pops right back up.

Good diaper pail, still a little stinky, but less than others
I made the mistake of buying a diaper pail that needed special trash bags when i needed to get a diaper pail for my summer cottage. I thought, "eh, not that big a deal i'm just here for a couple months." well, i have twins, it was going to cost me $10/week in bags, so when the thing broke (cheaply made!) i thought i would spring for a brand that takes tall kitchen garbage bags. I have a different high end brand of diaper pail at home, so i thought i'd give this one a try because of the great reviews. Well, here is my honest review. For all the people who said "it's amazing, no smell!" well, they must have had babies that don't eat solid food yet. because yes, it's genius how it has to compartment and the trap door and the button and whatnot; however, you still get diaper smell. so don't be under any illusions. we empty ours every other day, and due to the steel inside, it doesn't hold the smell as badly as plastic, but i also threw some baking soda air fresheners in the bottom, which help. The other problem is the little trap door compartment. you push on it, and it springs open. My twins, who were 11 months when i got this, immediately started opening and closing it about 200 times per day. so clearly, that broke within a week or two. LOL. perhaps they could make that latch and function of metal too so that it doesn't break as easily? aside from that, this is a well made and well designed item, just don't pretend you aren't going to smell diapers... because you are, no matter what.

Looks Good But Does NOT Keep Odors Out! Company, however, has EXCELLENT customer service!
This diaper pail looks great and is great in concept but we have been using this for just over a year now and it does not work as promised. I did extensive research on diaper pails before our little one arrived and selected this one because of the claims made and for the look of it since it would look great in our modern nursery. The reality is that we cannot even put poopy diapers in the bin because it will make our little ones nursery smell like the diaper and not just a little but a lot. It does NOT keep smells out which is the whole point of having a diaper pail. It works ok for wet diapers as long as they don't smell too bad. After a year of use what I have notices is: 1. The "seal" where the metal part closes into the top does not shut all the way. We have had issues with this continually and it allows smells to escape and is a pain because we have to touch the metal most of the time to get it to shut all the way and that's obviously a sanitary issue. 2. The bin still smells even after the diapers are removed. I don't have experience with plastic diaper pails so I can't compare the smell to them. While it isn't a terribly strong smell once the bag of dirty diapers is removed you still can smell it. We continually spray ours with theives oil to keep the smells at bay and it really only masks the issue temporarily. 3. This diaper pail might be ok for the very beginning of a babies life when their diapers don't smell too bad but as they get older and start eating solids they smell really bad and this just doesn't keep the odors in. It was so bad that we now end up taking all poopy diapers downstairs and outside to a trash can since we got sick of our little ones nursery smelling like a dirty diaper. After a year of continued daily use I have to say that I would not recommend this diaper pail to anyone. I was really hoping that it would work well since I love that it takes regular trash bags and I love the way it looks but it just does not perform the way that it needs to. They need to improve the metal closure so that it seals all the way and they might need to look at adding some type of plastic seal as well to keep it air-tight. Until then, I would look for other options as this does not keep odors at bay. ***UPDATE*** Revised from 1 start to 3...I was contacted by their customer service after posting this review & they offered to send me a new top at no charge to help fix the issues we have been having. I will update again when the top is replaced but as far as customer service goes this company is top notch!

I love my Bubula!
I love my Bubula! I have a 6 month old who is now eating solids, resulting in offensively smelling diapers. This bin contains all the smell and allows me to use garbage bags instead of having to buy special bags. It will hold quite a few diapers. I empty it weekly so I can get the smelly diapers in the trash before the garbage man comes, but it could easily hold 1.5 to 2 weeks worth of diapers. I also appreciate how easy this bin is to use. I can deposit the diaper into this bin with one hand, leaving the other arm free to hold the baby. I recently had an issue with the Bubula where the lid broke and wouldn't close anymore. I was disappointed because I'd only had the bin for 2 months and expected a better product based off the price. I contacted the company via their website and was shocked to see them reply to my complaint within 10 minutes! Seriously - 10 minutes later I had an email from them in my inbox. Not a system generated email saying that they received my email and would get back to me in X amount of hours/days, but a reply addressing my problem. They apologized and said they'd had a batch go out with a bad pin and they would be sending me a new lid to my home free of charge. It has been a while since I've had a positive customer service experience and it makes me love my Bubula even more! I'd highly recommend this product and the company!

The good: - We used a regular trash can with ...
Update 1 year later: The lid broke again shortly after this review. I was able to super glue it back together, and it held up another few weeks until my husband broke it again. The super glued solution honestly seemed as sturdy and the unbroken, original lid, which tells you something about what it's like out of the box. Glued it again, and he broke it again. Glued it again, and baby kicked her changing table basket onto the pail breaking it again. Glued it yet again, a friend broke it. It has now been broken for approximately 8 months. It doesn't contain smells nearly as well without the lid, but what can we do? We paid a lot for this pail, and this is our last kid. I hope she potty trains early. A couple of times the sliding part of the lid also broke and wouldn't slide all the way closed upon release. I unscrewed the bottom panel on the lid and found this was and easy fix. One more note, I bought this pail because I wanted an all stainless steel pail to reduce smells. Unfortunately the foam gasket around the rim of the top, and the foam inside the lid (you have to unscrew it to see this foam) absorb smells. Believe it or not, this was my biggest disappointment with this pail. If I wanted a smelly nursery, I would have gone with a $20 plastic garbage pail like I did with my previous kid. I forked over this kind of money because I thought it would stay clean and I could sell it used locally after a couple of years. Now it's broken beyond repair AND it smells? Ugh. Changing my review from 4 stars to 2 stars. The good: - We used a regular trash can with our first child, and this time around I decided to splurge on a diaper pail to contain the smell. This diaper pail does an excellent job containing the smell, and if it lasts, I think it will continue to do so because the parts that are important are steel and won't absorb smells over time. I like the little cubby area I put the diaper in first, close the lid, and then let it drop down to the bag. - I like that when it comes time to change the trash bag, the design means I can quickly pull up the bag's drawstrings and shut it before 5-6 days worth of dirty diaper stench fills the room. - I love that I can use our regular trash bags and save some money in the long run, that is, if this pail lasts that long. - The lid did break a few days after we received the pail. I emailed the company and I immediately got a reply from the president of the company offering to send me a replacement lid. The lid arrived in a few days. Excellent customer service. The bad: - The small lid over the cubby area for the diaper is a little tricky to close. If you watch the video review with the 1 star review, it's a lot like that. I have to push the lid down and in to close it. I'm guessing the video reviewer could easily have closed his lids if he gently pushed them in. Annoying, but it's easy enough to figure out. For this much money, I would expect it to close with just a tap of the finger though. - Our first lid was a little harder to close than our replacement lid, and some how my husband broke it during a middle of the night diaper change. I'm not really clear as to what happened, but it sounds like it was related to the lid being difficult to close. Once we got the new lid, I gave him a lesson on how to *gently* push the lid in the close it. It's flimsy plastic and will break if slammed shut. If someone who will be using your diaper pail has trouble being gentle with things, this might not be the best pail for them. Or they can do what my husband now does and leave the lid open until the smell alerts you to the problem and you come by and close it for them. It loses a star because for $90 a sleep deprived parent shouldn't be able to easily break the pail.
