Not everything works the way it is described
The problem with this book is that, less than three months after its publication date, it describes features that don't seem to work the way they are described in the book. It seems that Facebook makes changes (or tweaks) to its system from time to time, and the book can't keep up with them, growing more and more inaccurate and obsolete. For instance icons that are supposed to be in one place or another are simply not there, or a broad blue bar has become white, etc. What the author needs to do is to offer a website where readers can be alerted to changes in the book, the way Rick Steves does for his famous travel guides. The book is still quite helpful, but a bit frustrating.

Maybe you're not so dumb after all!
Facebook for dummies assumes you know little to nothing about the complicated online world of Facebook. I have not read from the beginning on through; rather I have jumped around in the book to solve problems and answer questions as they arise. I purchased the Kindle version which at times has been difficult to find the exact topic I needed. In retrospect, the paperback edition would have been easier to navigate. I do miss the dogeared pages and notes in the margins, Either way, the info is surprisingly easy to grasp. I give it a "like".

Youtube videos on Facebook topics were better for me
I started reading the book at the same time I was setting up my facebook - with high hopes that it would make me a better than average user.So like all new users I wanted to track down people from my past - using the people search feature. Type in a name and see what happens. But with common names there were too many hits, and when I used the book index to see how to do filtering there were no additional tips. Videos on Youtube were better at answering this question, though not great. But at least it was free.I feel that the book should be way more concise with way more real content for new users. But to be fair I will continue to use the book as the first resource before searching videos.

social media no easier to understand
I find social media hard to understand and figured a Dummies book was just the ticket. But this time a Dummies book is not dumb enough for this particular dummy. It probably helps to have some experience and not be a total newcomer. Giving up.

Don't Waste Your Money
Facebook changes so often, that by the time you read this book a lot of shat you learned is obsolete.

Helpful
My kids made me a Facebook account, but I've been too busy to figure out how to use it. So I thought I'd take the easy way out and get the Dummy book. Of course, like all Dummy books, it's straightforward and easy to use. I guess that won't help me with the time element, but when it's late at night and my brain is slush, it will be easier to follow someone's directions and not have to do any figure out. So wish me luck!

Ok, the author tends keep saying she'll explain things more in the next chapter or two which can be frustrating but then again, Facebook has you jumping around their website to do a lot of some simple things.

Not what I was looking for.
I purchased this book hoping I could find out for a friend how to handle a hacked account and this book didn't help with that at all. Of course trying to contact Facebook was futile. Even trying to use the Facebook "report a problem" feature did not help. The only help this book offers is if everything goes well - it tells the obvious on "how to" information.
