Enjoyable read
This has to be one of the most beautifully written books that I have read this year. The descriptive settings, the characters, the plot and its twist have culminated into something eerily special. Strangely, the girl on the cover looks like Elena Gilbert from the Vampire Diaries....I'm just putting it out there.I have always wanted a tattoo in Latin that read: "They condemn what they do not understand". It's a fact of life, as we have seen it in history with the Salem Witch Trials and the Holy Wars. In this story, that statement holds true.Rune, which is a unique and cool name, is really going through it. Hearing voices, witnessing death and being accused of preposterous crimes can really wear on a girl. I'm very impressed that she didn't give into temptation and use her powers for evil-- power, in any form, corrupts. I love that she was realistic about things yet never gave up hope. All too often do I read about a character who is completely and utterly naive with stars in their eyes.Laurentz is another story. While I admire his steadfast belief that Rune is a good person, I didn't like how he sort of gave her the cold shoulder after she helped him out with a certain "problem". I am glad, however, that they both worked together to discover the truth of everything.I thought this was originally going to be a paranormal romance sort of book, but it turned out to have elements of mystery and suspense that made the story all the more better. Although this book is written like a stand-alone, I hope to see a book two in the near future-- my interest is very piqued as to what new journey Rune will embark on.

Another amazing book
The descriptions are amazing! Jennifer Murgia was able to paint a vivid picture of the scenery without bogging the reader down with excessive detail. Her gift with words is akin to an artist's paint on canvas, she paints a beautiful picture that stays with you for a long time. I would highly recommend this book for any young adult reader. There is no inappropriate content, no awkward situations, it is just good, clean, wholesome, captivating reading. Other authors ought to take a page from Jennifer Murgia's style of writing, it's definitely a welcome relief in the YA genre.

Captivating Historical Fiction
In Forest of Whispers, Jennifer Murgia does what she always does, totally captivates me. She took me to Bavaria and introduced me to a land and time I knew nothing about. She kept me guessing with each page and chapter and twist and turn of the plot not only what would happen next, but how things would work themselves out. Murgia exposes the atrocity of witch hunts while weaving a hypnotic tale. Can't wait for the sequel!

Forest of Whispers
Forest of Whispers by Jennifer Murgia is a great read based on Bavarian witch hunting in the 17th century and a bit on the Salem Witch Trials. Mixed with historical facts and fiction, Forest of Whispers pulled me in and I read it straight through to the end!
