excellent product
My mom bought her family one 14 yrs ago 5 units total. Excellent quality. Sturdy. After reading poor reviews here, I would not purchase a new one. Sounds like quality went down. Even still, I recommend a Berkey since you haven't the option to add a fluoride filter. We haven't both town and spring water at the house so we can avoid fluoride. Even my mom opted to store her aqua rain and purchase a Berkey. I recommend a Berkey!

Defective Aqua Rain lower vessel - Cost ovef $300.00
I purchased the Aqua Rain water filter unit with 4 ceramic filter units on August 8, 2017 (see attached receipt) through Amazon.com an authorized retailer for Aqua Rain. Yesterday I was near the unit when I heard metallic "twang". I observed the Aqua Rain unit slightly move when I heard the sound. I removed the top vessel holding the filters and observed that the single piece lower tank had developed a split along the top edge that is over 1" long (see pictures). The customer service representative that I spoke with over the phone admitted to me that this was the result of defective material that Aqua Rain was having the lower vessel made from. The Aqua Rain warranty states that "stainless steel filter housing and associated hardware of the AquaRain Natural Gravity Water Filter will be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of three years from the original date of purchase." This split of the lower vessel that I have clearly falls under this warranty.I am requesting that a replacement lower vessel be sent to me as a warranty replacement from Aqua Rain. The costumer service representative said I needed to buy the replacement myself (at their cost)

The Best
I have used the Aqua Rain every day for over 1 year. I have still not needed to use abrasive on filters, but I have washed the insides of both SS containers and all filters inside and out with dilute hydrogen peroxide. Only done this once about 6 months ago when the water started to taste a little off. That solved the taste problem. The water from this filter system tastes excellent. This is the best water filter I have ever used and I feel this is a great value even though it is fairly expensive. It is worth every penny.

Split lower tank rim
Like so many others, the rim of the lower tank on mine has split in three places. Weird, since it is always held in place with the bottom rim of the upper tank and is not moved and is in an environment where the ambient temperature is always the same.

Excellent
We use this every day here in Peru. After approximately 3.5 years the filter is still great. The customer service has been superb also. I would buy it again.

Good water but yet ANOTHER “uncommon” splitting problem with lower tank lip
Sadly, Ours is yet another example of the “uncommon” phenomenon of the lower water holding tank splitting at its top. Very disconcerting when one considers the cost of these water filters ours is yet another example of the “uncommon“ phenomenon of the lower water holding tank splitting at its top. Very disconcerting when one considers the cost of these water filter Systems. As a result, I as a customer will become “uncommon” with the Aqua Rain company. Berkey, here we come!

am completely comfortable with my Aquarain product
Sweetest water on earth! From my well, to my Aquarain, to my tummy. Just that simple. I have had this unit for two years and it works as well as it did when I took it out of the box. I am a retired welder/metallurgist. I understand the properties of stainless very well. Now and then, stainless is known to have impurities in the metal. However, the impurities found in stainless are far more uncommon than one would find in most any other metals, ferrous and non-ferrous alike. I have read some of the reviews about the bottom "can" cracking or splitting. These complaints, which I am sure are legit, are simply freaks, probably about as common as a crack in one of the space shuttles. I worked on several of the shuttles and cracks did occur no doubt. But these cracks were extremely rare. I, for one, am completely comfortable with my Aquarain product. When I see another shuttle blow up in the heavens, then, and only then, might I begin to show some concern. I have found Aquarain's product and above all, their Service, to be exemplary! God Bless our American businesses.

Poor Quality
I purchased an AquaRain unit and had the same experience as the other reviewer. My bottom unit split in THREE places and I could no longer fit the upper part over it. This was after only about two years. AquaRain refused to replace it, saying that this was very uncommon. Well.. apparently not that uncommon. They offered me a very small discount on a new unit... almost full price. LISTEN TO ME... there are a lot of reputable gravity filter manufacturers out there that would replace a split stainless canister... ok? Because it shouldn't happen. The housings for these filters should last a lifetime if not abused. AquaRain used to be inexpensive compared to other gravity filters but that is not the case anymore. You can get a better deal on a quality product. My feeling is this... if they can't manufacture a steel can that works, how much confidence do you have in their filters doing a good job?
