Kids love the Henkes books.

our 6-year old saw this read on Storyline Online and it was an immediate "must have"! From that experience he even has searched out some American Sign Language along with other country's versions too. But better has been how he has shared the ideas of being very particular and yet, once you have a friend, you automatically begin to explore new ideas and new ways of doing things, Our 6-year old has even carried the themes from Chester's Way into his relationship with his 3-year old little brother and become more accepting of totally different approaches to life the two of them share. Much Fun and wonderful to see both our boys reflect on their own particulars ways of doing things with new eyes, new ears.

Every once in a while you discover an author who has been publishing books for decades. That's the case here. I'm sorry I only just discovered him recently. This is a sweet, easy reading book for early readers. Great to read alone or as a bedtime story. Charming illustrations add to the fun. The book touches on themes of making new friends, accepting others and trying new things. Also good humor throughout. I look forward to reading more from Kevin.

My daughter asked me to buy her this book because she had read it at school and this was her favorite. So how could I say no to that! My daughter likes me to read to her so when I read this to her, I loved it too. Actually really loved it. As an aside and speaking as someone who recognized more than a little Chester in me, I also recognized that Lilly is the child I wanted to be all those many years ago. I think this story celebrates the greatness of childhood but is also a lesson for adults. What fun stepping out of our comfort zones can be.
