The second of two electric-blues albums released on Chess Records and Cadet Concept imprint in the late 60s, Muddy Waters' After the Rain has achieved cult-like status amongst blues fans in the years since his death in 1983. After taking a backlash from critics with first attempt at adopting psychedelic influences on Electric Mud, Muddy made adjustments for the follow-up, despite keeping a majority of the same session players. This time, he toned down the psychedelic elements and put them in balance with his classic Chicago blues sound, and the results yield some vintage tracks that glow with fuzzy guitars and bass: "I Am the Blues", "Ramblin' Mind", "Bottom of the Sea", and "Blues Trouble." After being out of print for years, Get On Down is proud to present this rare classic from Muddy Waters pulled from the original masters and presented in an attractive digi-pack.

Overall a very good album.. Blues Puriest - give it a few listens.you will accept it as a worthy Muddy Waters classic recording.
Actually a bit easier to digest at first listen than Electric Mud... Critics have not been so kind to either recording at the time of their initial release. I still have my vinyl version of After The Rain., and happy I finally replaced it with the CD version. Muddy appears to be in control more on these sessions and enters the 70's with a harder blues approach., it works... The mix is not as distorted and over layered as on "Electric Mud" To all you die hard blues purist give this one a few listens... I am sure you will accept it as a Muddy Water's classic...

A Beyond Heady Experience
I bought the "After The Rain" LP from a discount rack 30 years ago, or so. It completely blew me away then, and still does today! I did try to rip the LP to CD, but after grinding it away after thounds of plays, the quality could never match the original. For years I tried to replace the LP or find it on CD to no avail. I'm not a huge fan of the Blues in general but this album, (Muddy Waters first forey into the Electric Buzz souns; is simple out of this world. For anyone who considers themselves a music collector I triple-highly recommend this CD

Great Late Muddy recording
I loved After The Rain as a teenager back when it was released. I recently revisited it and I must admit I still love it. This 2011 version sounds and looks great. The version of Rollin N Tumblin alone is worth the price. Well maybe that is an exaggeration but it is a great song. It seems to me that the complaints about this album are that it doesn't fit the formula of what a Muddy Waters album is supposed to sound like. Even calling it a sell out. This is similar to the negative feedback by critics of the Miles Davis album On The Corner when it was released. But now On The Corner is considered a masterpiece. What changed. The music didn't . Honestly this album is most likely being lumped in with Electric Mud. This album really doesn't have the psychedelic sounds of Electric Mud. It has the same musicians but is a different sound. So I would say the complaints are unfounded. Muddy's singing is strong and his lead guitar on Rollin and Tumblin, Honey Bee, Blues and Trouble, and Screamin and Cryin is as good as ever.Though this album has a different style than Electric Mud, I must admit I don't dislike Electric Mud. i would rate it a 3 1/2 stars. Every album doesn't need to sound the same. How about being a little more open minded. If any of you get the chance check out Live At Mister Kelly's. a good album that is over looked.

As described. Recieved as a gift and the recipient loved it. What can I say, it's a CD of Blues music - each to their own. Good delivery and packaging.

After the Rain est-il un indispensable ? I am the blues

Classic Chicago blues
Muddy and the boys play these songs like they've been playing them for the last 30 years, which they probably have. A great recording of some Muddy standards and one of the best studio albums he made.
