Does the plastic base detach from the roller mechanism?

I could not remove the plastic base from existing doors, but what I found worked perfectly was to pull the whole stem-assembly (nylon wheel and metal stem w spring attached) out from the base on this item and the door. Then pop the new shaft and roller into the door’s plastic base with a small rubber mallet … PRESTO! Doors re-hung and working perfectly now. (apologies to the manufacturer, but this was my “real world” experience).

When I bought this house the bifolds were in and the roller guide missing. How do I determine what size roller guide to buy?
