Is it a cheap set or is it real ferrofluid

This is not cheap set but an education FerroFluid. It is not for tweeters or industrial uses. There is only one maker as we know of.

Is the product instruction manual and msds for this ferrofluid available online?

Instructions: wear gloves and put plastic wrap down before use. Use includes repulsion or attraction using preferably nedymium magnets. It's all really common sense. Just google ferrofluid msds. It will stain skin, clothes, and most porous surfaces.

what liquid could this be suspended in so that you can watch the fferrofluid without it "wetting" the sides of the glass, rendering it unviewable?

Dunno. The iron powder, which is black, would turn any liquid black.

Can this be used as magnetic ink in a printer or can this be combine with ink to make it magnetic?

I think that could mess up the printer especially if there are metal components for the liquid to stick on. It is not very powerful so I’m not sure if the diluted amount mixed in ink would give a magnetic field to attract metal. It is a very thin liquid that might bleed through paper. It is also stains everything.

Cool stuff!

I'm not a chemist, but it seems to be the real deal. If you want to make a display just add one pipette squeeze to a 1:1 ratio of distilled water to isopropyl alcohol. I used 99% isopropyl but I'm told also rubbing alcohol works well.

Read first.

I tried every kind of suspension liquid to make this ferrofluid work for displays that my son and I wanted to give his friends. We tried mineral oil, vegetable, and vegetable with a little water. Don’t buy if you are wanting to make displays it won’t work. Also it is not very magnetic a lot of the “ferrofluid” will be left behind when trying to get it to move through the suspension fluid clouding up the entire solution leaving you with a jar of solid blackness and no visibility. I don’t know what this is probably some iron shavings, water based food coloring, and oil is my guess.
