the missing link?
This book is the sequel to " Resident Evil - The Umbrella Conspiracy " and it is an original novel (using the same characters as in the games, but attempting to bridge the gap between Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2).The surviving STARS members have been suspended following the Spencer Mansion incident. With many of their dead colleagues being accused of the grisly murders, and the public at large not knowing anything about the activities of Umbrella, the STARS are on their own in their search for truth and justice for themselves and their friends. This book introduces several new characters; some which survived to the end of the book and others which meet a tragic end of their own. There are several of these new characters who "bite the big one" but I would have liked to have "lived on" and appeared in the future books, but the author had other plans. Their loss is effective because I had developed a liking for them - this empathy is a skill which many authors cannot achieve.Though the surviving STARS appear, this book follows the youngest STARS member, Rebecca Chambers, and the new characters that S D Perry has created. The Umbrella scientists have been working with the T-virus and appear to have managed to produce a better functioning form of zombie. The mysterious Trent sends Rebecca and new characters David Trapp (captain of the Maine STARS) and some of his trusted friends and colleagues to the Umbrella research facility at Caliban Cove. Unfortunately, wherever the T-virus is tragedy can't be far away. This is one of those rare cases where I wish that the company, Capcom, had looked at the book and created a video game from that instead of doing a prequel with a timeline that doesn't match any of the other stories/games.I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and I'm glad I added it to my growing Resident Evil collection.
