HD60 S

Before I get to the review I'll quickly detail my computer specs since it may matter. i5-4690k 16gb ram nVidia GeForce GTX 1070 1TB Samsung 840 Evo SSD which I had the software set to use for recording storage So I actually purchased this on May 11th so I could record my (admittedly rather bad) gameplay from my consoles. When I got it I had a few issues which I'll detail but first I'll go through the pros. First off the unit is really easy to setup. Just download the software from the website and install it then connect the device. If you wish you can install the software ahead of time while you wait for a unit you ordered to arrive. The software itself is pretty stable. I didn't have any real issues during recording. The only one I had, which may of very well been user error, was that it seemed to be "recording" where the clock was moving but it didn't record. I had messed with some settings prior so I reset everything to default and it worked fine after. I'm actually able to get full 1080p 60fps without issue. This worked fine out of the box. It may have to do with my specs though and as such your mileage may vary. There are steps on the Elgato help site that can work towards improving performance if for some reason you are not able to get that. The recording was clear and didn't have any frame drops. Please be aware if you are trying to play the video via VLC and getting frame drops or what appears to be a scrambled picture please try another player that might actually use the system decoder. VLC uses its own decoder and it seemed to have issues when I tested my first couple of recordings. When I used a different player it worked fine. If people have to know I do use K-Lite Codec Pack but I don't think that was what fixed it but it may affect what system decoder was actually used. The fact that I use that doesn't constitute an endorsement or recommendation of that software. The issue with VLC may be resolved in a future update of the software if it isn't already. Elgato Support is very very good. They communicated via email and there may be a delay but responses are from actual people and I didn't have any troubleshooting based auto-replies. I did get one for the initial email receipt but that just gave appropriate response timeframes so that expectations could be established. Kudos to them for doing that. You do not have to hook up the HDMI out if you don't want to. For me I was just using it to hook up to the computer and using the software is perfectly acceptable. The delay is pretty much invisible. I was able to play the game using purely the feed from the software without any real issue. Now for the cons. My unit had a seemingly loose USB connection. When moving the unit would sometimes disconnect. I did get the unit replaced with Elgato where the issue continued. As a second step they actually sent me a replacement USB 3 to USB C cable (same as what was in the box) and that seems to have resolved the issue. So... if your unit seems to drop out while you are moving it then it may be advisable to just try a different cable and see if the issue persists. I can only guess there was a loose wire in the connector that plugged into the Elgato HD60 S. If the unit does happen to disconnect while the Game Capture HD program is running then it may crash. This may result in the loss of the recording or corrupted data in it. For the most part, this is a minor issue because it shouldn't disconnect on its own anyways.

So I bought this capture card after my Avermedia Live Gamer Portable 2 broke. The Elgato Game Capture HD60 S is the best external capture card for recording PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and more at 1080p 60 FPS. When you get this, make sure of the following: 1. Your computer has USB 3.1 or USB 3.0 ports. 2. Your computer meets the system requirements. 3. Install the latest firmware and drivers. 4. Install Elgato Gaming Software. After doing all of that, I plugged the capture card into my PC, launched the Elgato Gaming Software, and it worked perfectly. I was a bit worried that it wouldn't work on Ryzen, but I had no issues. It has so little lag you can almost play through the preview Window, and the quality looks amazing. If you want a good capture card for recording PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and more, pick this up. UPDATE 7/14/2019 The USB 3.0 cable which was included this capture card eventually stopped working after about 6 months of having this capture card, so I had to order a new USB cable for it. Not enough to drop the rating, but I thought I should warn people that the included USB cable may stop working eventually. Also one great feature I failed to mention was that it supports 4K 60 Hz passthrough. What this means is that I can play something like my PC or PS4 Pro in 4K while recording in 1080 60 FPS. No need to lower resolution on 4K capable consoles at all. I also have no issues using it stream all of my consoles using Streamlabs OBS. Still highly recommend this capture card. Just be weary of the USB cable issue.

I'm just going to make simple comparisons between the Elgato HD60 S, and the Avermedia Live Gamer Ultra. Elgato HD60 S Pros: - Capture card's design has excellent build quality, and it's very compact too! - Immediately picks up the video signal of my Nintendo Switch the moment the system is turned on - Excellent video quality - Frame rate is at 60 FPS Cons: - Colors will be a bit off under the default settings. You can use OBS's Color Correction filter to improve them, so it's an easy fix. - The audio from the game's capture will fade in once the system is turned on, but this is really a minor complain on my end. - The Elgato's firmware and software get constant updates like about every week or so. Unfortunately, you NEED to keep everything up to date, otherwise your capture card will not work properly. - Needless to say, you definitely must download pretty much all of the software from Elgato's website. Now for the Avermedia Live Gamer Ultra Pros: - Excellent design, as it has it's own vent to extract heat (The Elgato HD60 S does not have a vent that is visible, but that's not important to know.) - Great video quality - Frame rate is at 60 FPS at max - Updates are not constant, but they do happen when updates for the firmware are needed. Cons: - Build quality on the capture card itself feels just a little cheap, but it definitely beats the build quality of the first Live Gamer Portable capture card, which I had back in 2015, but it died on me months later. - The video signal reception is delayed the moment you turn on your console, but it also depends on the console you are using. Unlike the Elgato, you have to wait a few seconds for the video feed to show up in OBS (If you use that, which I also recommend) - Colors on the video feed may be a bit off by default, but then again, OBS's Color Correction filter can fix that easily in seconds. In conclusion, these two capture cards that I own are very much neck-and-neck in terms of quality, durability, technique, software, and also firmware features. No matter which capture card you use, however, I strongly recommend using OBS for the best streaming experience (or recording).

First Things first i have PC and MaC, BEFORE you buy this make sure your Operating System is supported. Second and equally important in my opinion i suggest you buy this with an HDMI Splitter if you dont already have one. So ive had my elagto for a few weeks now it works fine took me a little while to get the hang of using it efficiently but with some time and effort you'll get there too. Installing the elgato software is really simple and after you do that it's pretty much plug and play. I originally bought this to game cap PS4 and PS3 games i have but i came to learn you need a specific type of HDMI Splitter(one that can bypass HDCP) to capture PS3 game play which is why i suggest buying an HDMI splitter (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005HXFARS/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_30). I also learned that the elgato has the ability to capture TV through HDMI with the splitter as well which is a huge selling point to me. On the streaming side im not so sure about the elgato software. I hear OBS is good to use but i haven't worked that out yet so i cant say too much. The only real downside to this in my experience is the fact that you have to have your elgato connected to your computer to use it. If you wanna capture anything your computer must be on and the elgato software must be installed and running so if you're like me and dont have a laptop sucks to be you if you wanna take this with you somewhere. My favorite feature game cap wise this the fact that when you game cap you get a separate audio file meaning if you like in game music or voice clips/sound effects like i do you can just record it yourself instead of looking for it on the web. My final note is, if you dont have alot of storage on your hard drive just buy an external hard drive for all your captures because they eat up space fast Edit* After a few months of using this I have to lower the score. Because there are times where the elgato wont be recognized by my computer. Basically the elgato is good when it works but not very consistent once something goes wrong

I bought this so I can show my friend my Switch gameplay and it works out real well. I screen share through discord, which is a bit wanky but it's not a problem, they get to see the main point. The bypass system works well and there is 0 lag from what I feel even when inputting the hdmi to through the game capture. Pros: -Easy setup -Bypass system works well -The application that comes with the product is pretty self explanatory, takes a little bit to play around to understand but shouldn't be too hard - Nice and compact -Application has preset borders for streamers (even if you don't stream, it's kind of cool to see yourself through your webcam feeling like a streamer HAHA) -If you record your gameplay with voicings, the voicing is processed into a separate file, so if you edit your gameplay video, you can adjust the audio separately from the voicing. Cons: -Application lag slightly (May be because my computer, which I can't say is the whole problem. My computer still processes high cpu eating games fine, but this application lags real slightly, so it might just be incompatibility.) -Application's just wanky in general (takes a lot to play around to really understand what's going on)

I did a lot of research before choosing a capture card to stream PC games with a dedicated streaming PC setup. I'm glad I went with the Elgato HD60s - it works perfectly for capturing 1080p 60fps and allows me to record and stream high quality simultaneously. I am using OBS and a dedicated GTX950 graphics card to encode using NVENC on the streaming machine, which is an i3-6100 with 8GB of ram. The i3 can't really handle encoding x264 but I have no issues streaming at 5000K and recording at 8000K with NVENC and the video quality is fantastic. I know many people stream and game on the same machine but I wanted to use a dedicated streaming computer to ensure my gaming PC did not lose performance while in-game. The Elgato feels solid and well made and has happily done its job without any issues. Everything installed and worked perfectly on the first try and the included software is decent if not unobtrusive. I can't talk much about their streaming and recording tools since I'm using OBS, but I did poke around with it and it seems pretty good. All my recordings and streams have had no hitches or odd behavior. The included cables were high quality and the overal packaging and presentation is professionally done. You do feel like you're in possession with a solid, well-engineered product from the beginning.

A couple of friends and me started a Twitch channel to stream some just talking and gaming. I used some super cheap capture device, which is usually used to capture a DSLR camera as a web-cam, to capture my PS4 gaming. To be honest it was uncomfortable to play on a laptop screen that also ran the OBS. I decided to try one cheap capture device, but I spent one hour just setting it up to get an "okay" experience. I decided to return that (bought in a nearby store) and took a risk with the Elgato HD60 S capture device. This is a GAMECHANGER, setting up was super-fast, just downloaded the software, adjusted what needed to be adjusted in the PS4 (which is in the Elgato support site), and plugged in and played. Adding the sources to the OBS was done in two clicks, no need for me to adjust anything other than the volume. I am a happy gamer and I recommend this device if comfort is one of your priorities. I've streamed over 4 hours of gameplay so far and had no issues or complaints from our viewers. If you are into recording more than streaming, the Elgato software has you covered, it also has some cool overlays and alerts in case you want to give them a go.

Elgato always knows how to make things easy to set up this is an awesome product that I've been using for a couple years now and I highly recommend that this is I gotten by other people it is easily compatible the quality is amazing for streaming capturing videos has never looked so good the recording speed is out of this world keeps up with most things that is 4K and straightforward easy to use highly recommend

Elgato HD60 S is a great product which I love. I needed it to make youtube videos and it is the perfect thing i needed to make my videos. Would defintitely recommend buying this. But also make sure you have a good laptop to capture. Intel i5 is the minimum. It is great. It has zero lag passthrough and its just like playing the game on the laptop. Buy it without looking back.

I bought this so I could share my switch gameplay with friends. The set up was fairly simple, and granted while it took me awhile to properly configure the software so that there wouldn't be input lag when using my PC monitor as display, the result was as if I had just connected my switch to a monitor. My only criticism is that the capture card should have on board presets to make it more convenient to transfer settings to other PC's.

Estamos ante la mejor capturadora del mercado junto con su hermana Elgato HD 60 Pro, salvo que esta ultima tiene conexión PCI y no se puede usar en portátiles. Hay que conectarla si o si en un USB 3.0 para poder exprimir su potencial y poder ver en el software de Elgato EN DIRECTO SIN LAG NINGUNO lo que esta sucediendo en la consola que estamos capturando. Y esta es su principal novedad, la ausencia de lag y el poder jugar a la PlayStation 4 por ejemplo desde la propia pantalla del PC. Esto es esencial si solo tenemos 1 monitor en casa para el pc y la consola, no tenemos que estar constantemente cambiando entre canales HDMI, jugamos directamente viendo la imagen en el software de la capturadora porque no hay latencia alguna. Pero todo esto tiene un coste y es que necesitamos un buen equipo para que esta capturadora funcione correctamente. Es necesario un procesador i5 de 4 generación (i5 4XXX) MINIMO para que funcione. De otra forma habrá problemas como que el audio se corta o la imagen se rompe. Su software se actualiza a menudo y soporta incluso streaming en las plataformas mas conocidas. Podemos controlar el volumen del juego, de nuestra voz, etc... Podremos añadirle la imagen nuestra de una webcam que tengamos conectada, y muchas cosas mas! El único punto negativo puede ser el precio, pero hay que recordar que si adquirimos esta capturadora estaremos adquiriendo la MEJOR capturadora del mercado. Eso si, hay que comprobar si tu equipo aguantará con ella y asegurarnos de que al menos cumplimos con el requisito del procesador.

Es una excelente capturadora de video. Es muy fácil de usar y su tamaño compacto le da un plus ya que no ocupa mucho espacio. El cable tiene buena longitud, ni muy largo ni muy corto. Yo tuve que devolverla porque juego en Xbox One X en 4K y esta capturadora no trae 4K pass-through, esto significa que tengo que sacrificar el juego en 4K para poder capturar el video porque graba a 1080p. Si tienen Xbox One normal o S, PS4 o Nintendo Switch no pasa nada, solo alcanzan 1080p y no tendrán problema alguno pero si tienen Xbox One X o PS4 Pro, les recomiendo la AverMedia Live Gamer Extreme 2 (GC551) que fue la que yo compré para resolver este problema ya que ésta última sí cuenta con 4K Pass-through y puedes jugar en 4K y grabar a 1080p sin necesidad de un splitter HDMI. Le doy las 5 estrellas porque mi problema no fue culpa de la capturadora sino mío por no informarme sobre el tema, además lo poco que la usé jaló perfecto y no se calienta para nada. Espero les sirva esta reseña para elegir su próxima capturadora de video.
