Malala affects change in the world. Beautiful book!
"Every child. Every country. Free school." This is the way to create change. It made me think of my mother and how much she pushed me to focus on academics and school since I was a little girl. "Our words can change the world" that is so true. To create change you have to do it with words and love. "Malala's mother was the heart of their home" so is mine. Girls should be able to go to school just like boys. "Malala wrote a blog" and I have a successful blog called TheAyeshaSite.com and it's doing really well. I loved this children's book! I thought it was really cool. Muslim women and their eyes is the next thought I had. I love the cover.

I would recommend this book
This was a mandatory book for my 4th grader. Has some graphic illustrations and a mature topic. I would recommend this book, just so long as parents could explain and be available to answer question regarding the mature topic. I would have rather my child learned this story in 7th or 8th grade. For a mature audience only. May cause stress for those children that have anxiety.

Striking artwork matches powerful story-telling
Powerful, beautiful book. Excellent read-aloud for my 3rd grade class. The artwork is fabulous, with Eric Carle overtones. At the end of the book are suggestions for organizations to contact to provide assistance to those in need, as well as other resources for more information about the region and its problems.

It did a good job of telling a few facts about Malala but ...
I bought this book for my girls (11, 9, 7) to read as an introduction as we learn about Malala. I realize this is geared towards children... but this book left my girls confused instead of enlightened. It did a good job of telling a few facts about Malala but I felt it left out a lot of the "Why". Still a good introduction though... so I suppose it served it's purpose.

Malala is an Example at any age.
Bought this book for my granddaughter as I want her to know how things are outside of her little world and how blessed she is. I want her to grow up to be brave and want to share herself and give to those who have less.

OLDER ELEMENTARY STUDENTS
Excellent story for fourth and fifth graders. The concept of school being denied to girls, being a sought-after challenge for a child is not an American concept, of course. I believe that this is a story for all time. Will lead to wonderful questions and a thoughtful discussion will stay with the students, we hope. Possibly would work with some third graders, just have not done that.

A powerful story and message. I want my son to understand that the privileges he enjoys do not exist everywhere. We must be aware of other cultures and participate in a broader conversation about education and learning.

Highly recommended
Read this to my six year old this evening. It is well written and reads like a story, including the essential facts (I feel the shooting was dealt with perfectly). She engaged with the book well and was interested. It of course provided scope for discussion. I wanted her to appreciate that she is lucky to go to school and she did seem to understand that! I would recommend this book for children of junior school age, or a little younger if your child loves books.

I bought this book for my 3 year old twins. I showed them the film and read the book in tandem. My girls are truly inspired by the book. I am brave like Malala is kind of become a tag line for them.

great to introduce Malala's story and Pakistan aspects to children
5-year old daughter loves it too. Beautiful drawing and writing, just right for that age and a few years beyond.

Enlightening and humbling
Such an inspirational story to share with children to highlight global issues in an accessible format. I loved this book so much I am giving it to my head teacher to see if we can start a school initiative, raising our children's awareness of their right to education, which is sadly not enjoyed by other children over the world.
