Product Description The Carper Family apply more of their signature, stunningly tight three-part harmonies to bluegrass, old-time, country and swing tunes on Old-Fashioned Gal, the triumphant follow-up to their 11th Annual Independent Music Awards-winning debut album Back When. Co-Produced by multiple Grammy winner steel guitarist extraordinaire Cindy Cashdollar and Billy Lee Myers Jr. of Austin City Limits, Old-Fashioned Gal features a mixture of original songs, tunes from their songwriter peers, along with covers of Neil Young, Larry Sparks, and Floyd Tillman. Guests Bill Kirchen, Brennen Leigh, and Lisa Pankratz add to the mix, and help show off why this trio from Austin, Texas has been featured on NPR's A Prairie Home Companion and added to the lineup of major music festivals across North America and beyond. Review The Carper Family is my favorite Texas band, and I know my high opinion of them is shared by many. This three-woman group performs in a traditional acoustic style, and their repertoire combines great country tunes with truly excellent original material... Each possesses a distinctive voice, and their three-part harmonies blend sweet-and-smooth with honky tonk for a gorgeous sound. --Gary Mortensen, Texas Swing KingsThey're great instrumentalists, singers and songwriters and they have this unique way of blending contemporary with traditional. The result is this beautiful mix of timeless music. --Cindy Cashdollar, Texas Steel Guitar Hall Of Fame

I really like this group
I really like this group. The album is very nice with a lot of good songs. I didn't give 5 stars because I think the album is a bit over produced, with a bit too much reverb on the vocals. I think some of their live stuff on YouTube sounds better. Still, an excellent album.

"My Old Chevy Van"
I bought only this one song. Heard it one afternoon on KNON in Dallas, and loved it immediately. If you've ever owned a car that you felt was a part of you, and if you've ever felt like a traitor when the day came that you had to give it up, you will be able to relate to this song. For me, it was a 1991 VW Jetta GLI with 5 on the floor.

I Love These Ladies Music
I got a chance to hear these ladies in person and they were wonderful!! A bit of blues, a bit of country, and a bit of blue grass all rolled into one fantastic sound! Their voices blend beautifully together and with the music puts it over the top! Highly recommend this CD. It's my favorite of all their CD's.

Listen to the samples, and buy it!
Start with a traditional Americana Appalachian sound reminiscent of the Carter Family: Mix in some harmonies as sweet as the Andrews Sisters. Throw in some early Rockabilly and Texas honkytonk, and spice with a little gypsy violin. The results are truly outstanding: excellent musicianship, 3 vocalists each with their own style, and an impeccable sense of style and tradition. I had the joy of seeing The Carper Family perform live as a trio. This recording adds other instrumentalists, but keeps the basic sound of the trio. It's become one of my "must listen" albums, and it's not at all unusual for someone to come running up and ask "who is that?"

Buy this album. You will not be sorry!
I've been following the Carper Family for a couple of years now. Great musicians. Wonderful harmonies. Fun songs. I love this band and I love this album. I took the album on the road with me a few months ago and could not stop listening to it. It's a great CD to listen to on a long drive.
