We Love Fancy Nancy!
I bought this book on Amazon.Com. as a Christmas present to my grand daughter.I have been buying Fancy Nancy books for her since she was two years old. She loved the very first one, she has loved every single one of them I've given her since then, and she's always excited to receive another one for a present. She is five now, and still loves the character and the stories. I have to say I love Nancy myself. I know I wish I'd had her books back when I was a young girl. The themes are simple, yet rich and full of detail, and the artwork is intricate and expressive. I especially like the story lines, as they are all sweet, but not sugary. They portray a child who is in a loving family, and is not only free to be herself, but is encouraged to bloom and be creative, to use her imagination, and be as fancy as she wants to be.I find this to be a welcome addition to all the "super-heroes" out there that are available for girls. Nancy offers a choice of heroines to emulate, she is a character who is a little more realistic and little easier to actually be like, and little girls identify with her. Although we can't Really fly and fight crime, we can certainly dress up with a boa and a tiara, decorate our bedrooms with scarves and ribbons and beads, and can come closer to being "Fancy" than we can the others.I am giving my grand daughter the 2011 Fancy Nancy Calendar along with this book, "Fancy Nancy Tea Parties", for Christmas. When she opens it we will put on our tiaras and drape our feather boas around our necks, and we will read the book together. She will be delighted, and so will I!
