DEWALT DEWDC720KA DC720KA Cordless 18-Volt Compact Drill/Driver

I bought this Dewalt drill after my last plug in model (at least a decade old) was stolen. Dewalt has done quite a bit to improve their drills since my last purchase. The adjustable torque is probably the best addition. It allows you to use less power when necessary on finesse jobs, which makes it much easier to avoid stripping screws (use setting one or two) and drill holes to the proper depth, but the drill will deliver much more power if you need it. The LED light is great too. It really does illuminate the workspace and eliminates the need to try and juggle a flashlight and power tool at once. Case is sturdy and allows me to put a screwdriver and drill bit set (21 piece) inside and still get it closed. Larger sets for commercial use wouldn't fit inside but for a homeowner like myself it's all I will ever need. Both batteries (comes with two) charged properly and as to date have functioned adequately. I drill infrequently so I wasn't going to pay more for lithium. Seems like that would be more of a necessity if I drilled nonstop, like if I worked in construction.The only thing I would improve is add a level back in the rear, which my older, cheaper model had. It was a great feature and made it easier to drill at a proper angle. I don't understand why Dewalt did away with this feature. They need to bring it back.If I see any more shortcomings with the product or have any problems with the batteries, I will update my review. I wish Amazon let us use half stars because I think 4 1/2 stars is spot on for this product.

This is the best drill that I have ever owend. I have only used it a little bit since the purchase but bought this and am very happy with it. This is a very powerful drill. It even screwed right into 2x4 without pilot holes. Charge seems to hold for a long time. Make sure you charge as soon as you get it. I put the battery on the drill just to check for charge and it seemed to have one so I didn't charge right away. Well charge from factory was minimal so had to stop project to charge the the batteries, good thing is the battery charged in about an hour.

I needed to replace, a cordless drill I had bought from Harbor Freight. after owning a cordless drill, I was amazed how often I would use it. The batteries died on my Harbor Freight drill, after abought a year and a half, only to find out that they, no longer made replacement batteries for it. I now, would have to buy thier newer model. I did a lot of research, an decieded to step up to a Dewalt. I knew, I could get batteries everywhere. Boy was I surprized, how good this Dewalt DC720KA cordless drill, works. It's awesome, light weight, it has excellent power and the batteries seem to last forever. it was cheaper through Amazon.com than any of the other stores you can't go wrong with Dewalt, I Love It.

The drill is nice - but I paid $164.oo and now I can get the same drill for $99. I paid way to much at amazon.com

18 volt drill/driverdc/720ka dewalt cordless drill, use it to fix rubber maid mail box where teenager keep knocking off post, put 2" # 10 screws in it all around sides keep from having to buy another $80 mail box, it was simple with drill , tried doing by hand could not get screw in the box .great power ,finished job easy and quick . must have drill .great sale price.

UPDATE:I did purchase from lowes and have used it for a year. The batteries are very weak now and the chuck has proven not to tighten and hold (round shank)bits any longer. Most reviews I have read are from new purchasers so thought I would update mine after the year of using it. I was anticipating using this drill after reading the reviews. I do home and neighbor stuff so it would have been useful. The packaging from Amazon was awful and the case was floating around inside the packing box. I opened the drill case and I am sure it was a used item. It had marks all over the drill housing and the batteries wouldn't charge. Don't buy these items from Amazon. I returned for a refund.

I'm a DYI'er and this drill fits the bill. I use it often and it has not let me down. I've driven 3 1/2" screws into pine 2x4's and it doesn't hesitate. It equally makes clean holes with the several sizes of drill bits that I've tried. This drill is just what the manufacturer claims; it operates well within its design capabilities. Its has plenty of torque and its easy to handle. I didn't think that I would like the LED light, but it really comes in handy. The weight is OK; although a smaller person may think it's a bit heavy. I'd recommend a compact screw gun for lighter applications. The battery charge duration is OK; I'd recommend a few extra batteries for full day of use. Overall, I'd say it's a good value for the price.

After my THIRD replacement drill I am finally returning it for a refund. Each one had a chuck wobble/runout that was notable to the naked eye. Chuck up a thin bit or try to drive a screw and you can tell things were not aligned properly. I even chucked up a very fine art pen I have and it drew a ~1mm circle at whatever distance it was to the front of the pen. My final check was a "poor man's" dial gauge. Solidly mounted the drill and ran a pencil onto the metal rotating portion of the chuck as I ran the drill... The markings were very evident that one side of the chuck was hitting pencil as it turned but the other did not. Like I said, I didn't have a dial gauge to quantify the runout but these few checks were plenty to know that something was amiss.I would have expected better QC from Dewalt... perhaps this amount of runout is what they deem acceptable for this drill?? Perhaps these were all from a bad lot?? They were each built in the 40-49th week run of 2011 according to the imprinted lettering beneath the battery.Other than that the drill feels great in the hand so I'm disappointed I couldn't get one that was satisfactory.

Muy buen producto, la duración de la bateria, apesar de ser NiCAD dura bastante, si bien solo lo utilizo para trabajos caseros la potencia que ofrece es basatante. Y lo mejor fue el precio solo $1800.00. Espero Amazon nuevamente tenga precios y promociones como cuando iniciaron opreaciones en México.

Powerful, no need for 20 volts. The drill is light, but the battery is heavy, mostly the large XPG replacement one, and maybe that is where the 20 volts would shine (smaller and lighter). The battery charges fast. The 18 volts presentation is so versatile because numerous compatible accessories are available. I also owne the jigsaw and the skilsaw; both are sturdy, nice looking and powerful. The price to pay is that it drains the battery fast, so be sure to buy an extra pair of XPG baterries with a second charger. One drawback: only one place on the drill to hold a screwdriver head; 2 would have been great. Comes with 2 batteries (thanks to DeWalt).
